Hi LIB,

I bought a copy from them but it was a while ago and I don't remember if it has subtitles. I can try to find mine and check it. Or else you can try to contact them and ask... I think they list their email address somewhere on their site. You can try this one: news@rbcmp3.com  or this one: info@rbcmp3.com

Which dvd ? I just bought & watched ASSASINATION of the TSAR. It is not subtitled but a truely interesting film. I got really involved in the story, even with my very limited Russian.
I think some of their other titels are subtitled though.

It's in Russian without subtitles (it is after-all for the Russian abroad market), but you can get the English version from Amazon.

I just dug my VHS copy out and started watching it again, I have to say it is really well made. I know I saw it once before when I fist got it, but for some reason I could not remember anything about it. I would really recommend this film even though it doesn't have subtitles, but you can probably figure out what's going on if you know the general storyline.
Apparently the main character, Malcolm McDowell, who plays the mental patient, thinks he is Yurovsky, and also Grinevitsky, the man who killed Alexander II.

Well, I finished watching the movie last night. What I had forgotten, among other things, was that the psychiatrist who was treating Malcolm McDowell turned out to be Nicholas II himself (I guess his reincarnation) and while he was treating him, he realized this. I am a little unclear about the significance of the missing little girl, was she supposed to represent one of the grand duchesses escaping?

I'm not sure. That part kind of confused me. Maybe it was of no significance at all. I didn't really see anything in the movie that overtly suggested anyone surviving.

Thanks for the referrals!!  I just ordered this from Amazon.com.  It sounds like a fascinating movie....

Yes, it's definitely worth while seeing. The one thing I didn't like was the portrayal of Alexandra, but I don't want to say too much, I'll let those who haven't seen it yet decide for themselves...

It seems her portrayal in Romanov films is always the most debated.  Very similar to the way people debate her character in real life.....

Yes, this is true. Ok, I will divulge just a few things, can't help it. For example, to me it seemed that the way they presented Alexandra's attitude was all wrong. She was blaming Nicholas for what happened to them - she basically yelled at him about it being his fault that they all "ended up like this". I don't think Alexandra ever did that... especially since Nicholas almost always did what she asked him to (which is partially what got them in the trouble they were in  ;))

Classic case of a harpee, screaming at what he did, because she demanded he do it ? Then, saying it was all his fault ?
In any case, I like the movie. Simplistic, as any film would be.

I agree with Helen, that I don't like how Alexandra was portrayed. (They needed a taller woman for a start!). I didn't like how they had her confused over what the date was - it should have been the other way around, as she kept her diary daily to the end, whereas the tsar didn't.

It was JUST a movie, after all. They had them even living in the wrong palace, as has been noted so many times.
It does not look like "historical accuracy" was paramount in telling this particular story.

Exactly!!  From what I have read about this movie, this is not trying to tell the "NIcholas and Alexandra" or "Rasputin" type of film.  It is for entertainment purposes.  Most people viewing these movies are not like the rabid Romanov history buffs that dwell on this board.  ;)

Remember the stink that "Braveheart" raised among Scottish history buffs?  Same story, different page....
