Princess Laurentien presented her succesfull childrensbook "Mr.Finney" at the Beijing Book Fair last week.
The book is published in english as the chinese have a strong desire to raise their child ( they're only allowed one..)
bi-lingual.The book became an instant success at the Fair and the "notable" market in China.

This week it was National Read and Writing Day and that saw the Princess reading in schools:

On thursday the Princess,Chair of the High Level Group of the European Commission and UN UNESCO Special Envoy on
Literacy for Development,attended and speeched at the National Literacy Day event on occasion of World Literacy Day,
at the Hall of Knights,The Hague .

HRH Princess Laurentien attended and speeched at the EU High Level Group Meeting on illeteracy in Cyprus.
Cyprus is the Chair of the EU at present,hence the meeting there.

The Princess is a strong global advocate in the fight against Illiteracy and as such was appointed the UNESCO
Special Advocate on Illiteracy in 2009 as well as a Member of the European High Level Group on Illiteracy in 2011.

The Princess also founded the Reading and Writing Foundation in The Netherlands years ago.

HRH Prince Constantijn celebrates his 43rd birthday today.

The Prince,youngest son of HM,was recently promoted to Adjunct at the Office of EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes.
He is employed since years at the EU Commission HQ in Brussels.

The Prince nor his wife get an allowance from the State but have their own jobs and income as we here
don't do free-loaders.Only HM ,Her Heir and his spouse get a State allowance,none of the others do.

HRH Prince Constantijn,Co-Chair of the Prince Claus Fund,handed out the Prince Claus Award yesterday.
Co-Chair of the Fund as his brother,Prince Friso,is the other Co-Chair,and they take turns in handing out
this annual award.This year it would have been Prince Friso's turn,but as he is in coma,Constantijn was
to take over that part too....As he said while standing on the stage;" Looking at the empty space behind the
microphone,it symbolizes I miss Friso,he should be standing there now." Princess Mabel,Friso's spouse who
was in attendance too,her first official engagement in The Netherlands since the accident in february,was
battling tears as was Princess Laurentien.Princess Mabel arrived together with HM The Queen,two formidable
Ladies who have earned enormous respect and massive support and love here,incredible,and heartwarming.
As HM and Princess Mabel left the Palace,the Princess got presents and drawings from people and she was visibly moved.

The Prince and Princess and their family accompanied by cousin Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène and their family
attended the premiere of "Mr.Finney" the opera,at the Koninklijke Schouwburg,The Hague yesterday.The opera was written
after the book by Princess Laurentien with drawings by Sieb Posthuma.
