Nicholas's uncles on his father's side, Vladimir, Alexei, and Sergei did try to give him advice. However, their advice wasn't in his best interest, it was in the best interests of the uncles. Nicholas was famously the kind of person who did whatever the last person who spoke to him said to do, or so it is alleged. Nicholas was too young, inexperienced, and polite to give his uncles' advice the boot, at first- later on they ceased to be so much of a problem, and of course Sergei died in 1905, and Vladimir in 1909, and Alexei died in 1908- Paul, Nicholas's youngest uncle never tried to give him advice I don't think- he was of course in disgrace because of his morgantic marriage. There's a lot on this in this forum, and also in Romanov books, although it takes some looking about this issue with his uncles. Nicholas did of course listen to Alexandra too, all his life.
