Poor York sisters   ;D

Beatrice is selling her fascinator for a charity. At least she has humour.

I'll probably kick myself, but who is the woman in blue behind Tim Laurence and next to Princess Michael?  It doesn't look like her daughter, not tall enough.

Edward VII and Alexandra (by William Powell Frith):
http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eGallery/object.asp?searchText=Marriage&x=0&y=0&pagesize=20&object=404545&row=17

The guest list is from the New York Times:
http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=2&res=9B01E6DA143EEF33A25754C0A9619C94629ED7CF

Identifications (as best I can) from L to R:
?Frederick of Denmark, ? (looks like Kaiser Wilhelm I, but he's not mentioned as having been there...?), Karl of Holstein-Glucksburg (elder brother of Christian IX), ?William of Denmark (George I of Greece), Maharajah Dhuleep Singh, ?Viscount Palmerston (older gent holding staff), Carl of Leiningen (half-nephew of Queen Victoria), ? (balding man with moustache), Edward of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (I think... it may be August of SC & G), Louis of Hesse and by Rhine, Ernest II of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha (although he's not mentioned as having been there, it does look like him), (girls/women in foreground on left) Thyra of Denmark, Dagmar of Denmark, ?Louise of Hesse, Alice, Leopold & Arthur (little boys in front of Bridal Party), Bridal Party (consisting of: Lady Victoria Scott (I think she's the one in the front row at the back), Lady Eliza Bruce, Lady Emily Villiers, Lady Feodore Wellesley, Lady Diana Beauclerk, Lady Victoria Howard, Lady Augusta York & Lady Eleanor Hare), don't know the 2 tall chaps behind Bridal Party (?royals, ?nobles, ?politicians), Edward VII, Alexandra, George of Cambridge (behind Edward VII & Alexandra), Christian IX, ?August(us) of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha or Philippe of Flanders (chap behind Christian IX & Louise), Waldemar (boy), Louise (wife of Christian IX), ?Alexandrine Of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha, ?Archbishop of Canterbury, Maria Hendrika of Brabant, Beatrice (little girl), Louise, Duchess of Cambridge, Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, Queen Victoria (up top in box).

Missing (mentioned in article, but can't seem to find them in the painting):
* Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich (eldest son of Alexander II),
* Frederick of Hesse-Kassel (http://www.royaltyguide.nl/images-families/hessen/hessenkassel4/1820%20Friedrich.JPG),
* ?Augustus of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha (presumably: http://www.royaltyguide.nl/images-families/wettin/saxecoburggotha2/1818%20August.jpg)

Not sure who is in the arch - probably various officials (?diplomats).

Others present included:
* Lord Alfred Paget
* Lord Proby
* Viscount Bury
* Sir Charles Phipps
* Hon. Mortimer Sackville-West
* Lord Camoys
* Earl of St. Germans
* Lord Edward Fitzalan-Howard
* Viscount Sidney
* Lady Edith Somerset
* Lady Geraldine Somerset

That's the best I can do with that one for the moment.

Any additions or corrections would be appreciated.

The Prussian

The details of the procession are available here:  http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/22718/pages/1563

I think many of your identifications are correct, but based on the order of procession and on the description provided by Violetta in reply #38 to this thread, a few aren't quite right.

First, the supporters or the bride and groom were the Crown Prince of Prussia (Frederick III) and Ernest II of S-C-G.  I believe they are the two gentlemen standing closest to the Prince of Wales (the groom, Edward VII), with Ernest in the Robe of the Order of the Garter.  The bride's supporters were her father, Prince Christian (later Christian IX) and the Duke of Cambridge.  So I believe they are the two gentleman standing right behind Alexandra.

The ladies behind Alexandra I think are Edward's sisters"  Victoria (Princess Royal), holding the hand of her son, William (later William II), Alice, Louise, Helena, and Beatrice (girl standing in front of Louise and Helena).  I think it's interesting to note that although they are not "bridesmaids" (those being the non-royal train bearers), nor "supporters," Louise and Helena are dressed exactly as the train bearers are.  You can even see a sprig of flowers on the skirt of one of them (sorry, don't know which is which) and corsages, and they have wreaths of flowers in their hair with veils.

So I think over on the left in the foreground with Thyra and Dagmar must be Louise (Alexandra's mother) between Dagmar and Frederick. The lady wearing the royal purple train I thought should be Alexandrine, wife of Ernest II, as she's the closest wife of a ruler (all the rest of them were still heirs, including Alexandra's father)-- BUT she is specifically listed as not present.  So I'm going to guess instead that the lady wearing the royal purple train is the Duchess of Brabant, Marie Henriette, later Queen of the Belgians.  She is listed as "her Imperial and Royal Highness" and seems to be the highest-ranking female of the right age who's unaccounted for.  Perhaps her "mperial status allowed her to wear purple?  Or perhaps it's Louise (Alexandra's mother) after all?  (It can't be the Duchess of Cambridge as she was 66.)

This is a fun game!   :)

Yes, I know it was months ago, but I still love to think back on it . . . William and Kate's, that is. Did anybody else get up at six in the morning to see it live? Did anybody else love Kate's dress? Anything on the Royal Wedding, or any Royal Wedding, is welcome on this thread.

PS - If this needs to be moved to the Having Fun section or somewhere, feel free to do so.

I know, but I meant for this to be a thread on all the royal weddings - it can be William and Kate, or some of their cousins, or anything like that. Thanks, though, for that info!

Anyone know what Russian brides wore to their weddings? Seeing as how they were so rich, I would love to have seen an Imperial wedding.

Yes, I would too. Um . . . I'm sure it was a grand affair - probably diamond tiaras and a beautiful dress made of silk. (Sorry I'm kind of daydreaming!)

Well hello, Olga Bernise! What a fun thread. We sure have been spoiled these past three months with three royal weddings. After long dry spells of no weddings, we got three! It's been a fun ride that's for sure.

For William & Kate's wedding I got up at 1:30 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time) and watched the live coverage. It was so surreal seeing William get married. The reason for that was because 30 years ago I got up to watch his mom marry Prince Charles. I don't think back then it was live, but then again maybe it was. That was the day my royal watching started and my interest in the British Royal Family. Then, due to my love of Faberge, I began learning more and more about the Russian Imperial Family all the way back to Catherine the Great. That's when I found this site. I think it was Bob who posted the very first pictures of the Alexander Palace. It was thrilling to see how that palace looks today compared to the black and white prints in the books I had at the time.

I digress...Royal Weddings so much fun! I was totally gobsmacked when I saw the inside of the Abbey for W&K's wedding. The trees lining the isles were over the top spectacular, the music was absolutely beautiful [through iTunes I chose two songs from their wedding: "The Procession of The Bride (The Introit): I Was Glad" and "Ubi Caritas"], seeing William wear his Irish Guards red uniform was so striking (I thought for sure he would wear an RAF uniform) and above all seeing Kate in her wedding ensemble...tiara and all...so lovely. And, who can forget their balcony appearance...so sweet!
