I found it a bit odd that Catherine would be staying in an hotel the night before her wedding and then I heard that the Queen had offered her and the Middleton family a suite at Buckingham Palace to prepare for the wedding but that they graciously declined that offer.  I wonder why?  Perhaps they just want to be a bit independent from the royal famly for their own reasons?  Probably can't blame them really in some ways!

Maybe for the same reason she is travelling to her wedding in a car - before her marriage she is a "commoner"?  Pure speculation on my part.

Perhaps they just want a bit of the wedding which is about their family before getting swallowed up in the Windsor saga.

I think that's more likely.  No doubt the Middletons are aware that once this marriage takes place, their family life as they knew it is changed forever.  One last private gathering together makes perfect sense to me.

That plus they insisted to pick up the tab for the stay at the Goring and one of the receptions, well done!
A clear statement by them of " we don't live of the public purse".At least not for the entire spectacle but
that's due to the State occasion that it is.

The new Coat of Arms Catherine Middleton's family, and the one she herself will use until the wedding:

Attractive coat of arms. Do we have any explanation for the symbols chosen?

The three leafy acorns (from the great English oak representing strength) represent each of Mike & Carole's three children. Apparently, an idea suggested by Kate, but who knows. The gold chevron in the center of the design represents Carole (nee Goldsmith) the matriarch of the family. The thin white cheveronels, above and below the gold cheveron, symbolize peaks and mountains apparently reflecting the family's love of the Lake District and skiing. The half-red and half-blue background is to distinguish it from a similar 16th century coat of arms.

The only item missing is a family motto, which I don't think is a requirement, but it would have been nice.

It's simple and lovely. Well done!

Somehow I don't think the managment of the Goring will be sending a big bill...the publicity for the hotel is priceless!
