I belive that the attack took place in Japan, not China.  And, yes, the man was caught.

I have read in several sources that Nicholas did indeed have headaches the rest of his life.  And that on his coronation, the heavy crown rested on the scar and caused him discomfort.

That is, of course, if we are talking about the same incident.

Are there any photos of Nicholas where the Otsu scar is visible? I've never noticed it.

And wasn't there evidence of the wound on his skull when it was examined by the forensic team in Yekaterinburg?

oh that would be awesome... to show proof that he did have a scar

i think they did  ???
it would help alot to know who's bodies was whos.
but a scar won't show up on the skull, but the skin.
did it break the skull?

The picture of Nicholas that Bear posted on page three of this thread is very interesting.  I have seen that picture many times, but never noticed the swelling where the circle shows it.

The skull would only have been "creased" not cracked by the sabre.  And from the state of the skull found in Pig's Meadow, the spot where the mark should be looks to be destroyed.

Since the Bolsheviks used rifle butts to disfigure the faces of the Imperial Family, there are probably a lot of creases and dents and cracks as well as the decomposition of the skull over the years because it was never properly buried.  I think that would make it hard to find the old scar.

I think, I have seen photo (during 1990s facial reconstructions) they compared one Nicholas' photo believed to be taken after Otsu incident, but I doubt. Thanks, RF4E!

29th April is Old Style -- New one is May 11th.

From his diary (parts) -- Old Style - Calendar:

29 апреля. Проснулся чудесным днем, конец которого мне не видать, если бы не спасло меня от смерти великое милосердие Господа Бога.

April 29. It awoke as wonderful day, whose end I wouldn't see, if did not save me from death great mercy of God.

-------------------------------

May 1. Tokyo. I not at all am angered to the good Japanese for the disgusting act of one fanatic. To me also as before, is any their exemplary order and cleanliness, and, it must confess, I continue to be looked at on…, which I from a distance see on the street. Is accepted mikado eleven hours…

Exactly, you can see that photo in the link that I have posted, he arrived in Nagasaki on April 27, 1891 (April 15 Old Style date) after his visit in Hong Kong, this photo was taken just a few days (around a week or two?) before the Otsu attack, also, thank you very much for the drawing (totally new for me), and for the two notes from the diaries of Nicholas.
