Ropsha Palace

When Ii first saw photos of Robsha in the horrible condition it is in today, I thought this was the result of the German occupation during WWII.   Then I saw the photo posted by Joanna a while back  that she said dated from the 1970's  and the palace was still relatively intact.   Did all this damage really occur in the the last 40 years?   I't almost unbelieveable.

Yes I agree with  you. The place has just fallen apart in the last 40 years. In Russia the climate has a lot to do with it I suppose. Once the roof falls in, the ice and sub zero temperatures do the rest. Such a shame.

Russian oil giant Rosneft to restore Romanov palace near St. Petersburg

The Ropsha Palace, an 18th-century residence near St. Petersburg built by order of Peter the Great, is to be rented to the state-owned Rosneft oil corporation for 99 years.

Making the announcement on Oct. 25, Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky said that the company will restore the palace, which is in a state of disrepair, and will create access for tourists to the estate after restoration.

How exciting. I hope it comes to fruition
