Royal Palaces (villas etc) in Denmark
« on: April 29, 2004, 01:09:49 PM »
As Im new on the Internet, and new on this discussion board could anyone help me by telling me if I can answer any replys to a subject that I put on this site directly, and not have to start a new topic every time?
To all of you who would like me to go to Olgas farmhouse and Hvidøre: I will get back to you on this site when Ive been there.
As you may know our Crownprince Frederik is getting married to Mary Donaldson from Tasmania in 2 weeks here in Copenhagen, and I have some work in connection to this wedding, so it may take some weeks.

Kirstin:

Could you take pictures and write something about your visit for the site?

Kirsten,
Can you also please tell me, and others Im sure, how to properly pronounce "Hvidøre"? I was told "vidoor" was proper.

Some of you have asked me how to say Hvidøre. I have now come up with a way to tell you on this "strange" medium:
HV=V
I=I
D=soft d
Ø=like the beginning of early
RE=soft r, you dont hear or say the E

To add to this:

I've heard (not speaking Danish myself!) that Dagmar is pronounced as Dalmar-is this correct?

Greg: Dal-mar is how I've always heard it pronounced.

Hvidore: sort of sounds like sneezing - vi-daire

As there seems to be some interest in how to say Hvidøre, and especially Ø or O as you write.
Ø= try saying early in the morning aloud to your self, then the first sound created by the letters EAR will be the Ø.
Lots of luck Kirsten (I know its difficult!)

The smallish Grand Duchess Olga Museum is a nic eplace to visit between Copenhaguen and Roskilde.  Sadly though they do not have the budget to produce things people can buy.  But at leats there you can see some of the Grand Duchess' paintings.

I have seven of them in my collection, a miniscule number compared to what someone else has.

I  also have acquired a number of  "Olga pictures"  (four watercolors and one oil) and would love to trade photos and impressions with other collectors.  alithere@yahoo.com.

Blanche, here's a link that will take you to the Danish Royal Family's official website and the current royal residences:

I couldn't resist throwing a picture in anyway:
