Yes. I have been there and loved the rare silver furniture and the crown jewels as well.

Two of the most beautiful castles in the world, in my humble opinion: Christian IV's 17th-century creations in Dutch Renaissance style.
I can't say that I consider them the most beautiful in the whole world, but they are really impressive, especially the collections inside : ).
Denmark is a fairy-tale country, it impressed more than all German and French castles, more than Louvre and other European cities and museums I've seen.
The funny thing is that in his infamous "An Account of Denmark, as it was in the Year 1692" the British ambassador to Denmark, Robert Molesworth, the later 1st Viscount Molesworth, writes that all Danes go on about how beautiful Frederiksborg is, not understanding that only Danes think so! :-) Now, I'm not Danish, but Norwegian, but of course the builder Christian IV was King of Norway too, so perhaps it's in our genes...

What "gets me" about these brick castles is the mix of domesticity, no doubt especially thanks to the Dutch brick style, and fairytale romance. They look just like fairytale castles are supposed to look like and yet look so cozy that you could imagine living there. I guess that might be a feature of Renaissance architecture everywhere, because of it's humanist ideals: English Tudor architecture and especially the French Loire châteaux, of whom they are a perfect Northern counterpart. But of course when it comes to Northern adaptions of palatial Baroque, Russia rules!

BTW the Dutch Renaissance style became known as "Christian IV style" in Denmark and became very popular, both for manors, town houses and public buildings, both in Christian IV's days and during its revival as a "national style" in the 19th century.

These ones are not in Denmark, but nevertheless steeped in Danish history:

Glücksburg / Glücksborg (or Lyksborg) Castle in Glücksburg by the Flensburger Förde / Flensborg Fjord which separates Germany from Denmark:

Today it's still owned by the Princes of Schleswig-Holstein (descendant of Christian IX's brother).

Louisenlund Manor on the fjord Schlei / Slien outside the town of Schleswig / Slesvig - summer residence of Royal Governor in the Duchies Landgrave Carl of Hesse and his wife Louise of Denmark (Christian IX's maternal grandparents):

....
Today it's a boarding-school linked with the ducal family.

Gottorf or Gottorp Castle in the town of Schleswig / Slesvig - residence of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp and then the Royal Danish Governors in the Duchies:

...................
Today it houses the State Museums of Culture and Cultural History and Archeology of Schleswig-Holstein.

Which one?
But I wouldn't know. I've seen both Glücksborg and Gottorp from the outside, but haven't been inside any of them. The most famous thing in Gottorp Castle is the Nydam Boat, an excavated Dark Age longship.

Wow, I didn't know that Det Gule Palæ was built by Frederik Bargum, a rich merchant who started Det kongelig octroierede Guineiske Compagnie, a company that had a state monopoly on buying and transporting slaves from West Africa (among other places the Danish possession Christiansborg, now Ghana's capital Accra) to the sugar plantations in the Danish West Indies* (modern US Virgin Islands) and the sugar back to Denmark. Admitted, he had already completed Det Gule Palæ when he went from trading in timber and tobacco to humans.

* BTW the now so noble and to the manor born Castenskiolds, who have married into the Danish RF, made their fortune in the Danish West Indies - as slave-owning planters.
