Yes it is her. You don't find many photos of her smiling (a bit like Queen Victoria that way) which is one of the reasons I selected this photo of her with Nicholas.

I was just reading Imperial Dancer by Coryne Hall and she says that there was a "clown" who entertained at children's birthday parties and had a elephant.

I have to look up the date because I read right by it and am now in the part where Mathilde is on a ship escaping the Caucasus with Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna and Grand Duke Andrei.

I already knew the three versions of the pics of "1903 Court Ball", but these ones are the clearest I've ever seen. This is the reason it makes them so special.

What if the photo is unlabeled....i can only guess date or place...

I know that some of the photos are unlabeled when you find them. I guess you could put that information under the picture. Something like - photo unidentified date and location unknown.

That would be a great help.
