I've wondered about the photo on the front of FOTR as well.

Is the sailor standing at the rear Klementy Nagorny?

I think it is nanny Derevenko, 'Diadka'. What photo are you referring at?

looks  like Derevenko to me. Nagorny seemed thinnner...there seems alot more pictures of Derevenko than  Nagorny generally

Notice how NII is scrunched between with his legs tightly together while the two bigger men take a macho/manly posture, legs spread comfortably. This photo reflects Nicholas' physical slightness that was a negative perception.

Interesting observation, HK. Also, N II is seated behind the other 2, when is position, by royal etiquette would be at least equal if not in the forefront.
However, by the composition, I would almost  guess this picture is a composition where N II is cut & pasted, so to speak.

Bob, I believe you are right...It looks like it now that you pointed it out, and I do not believe they would have sat that
close if Nicholas was there . I don't see a 2nd leg for N II either

His eyes are focused differently than the others as well.

Which begs the question 'why would anyone construct such a composite that so mispositions Nicholas?'

By the by, the expression of Prince george makes him appear a real sporting gent. Nice look.

I believe it is a composite picture; and as Annie pointed it out I don’t see the second leg for Nicholas. Composite pictures were common during that time, many groups photos were done this way.

Interesting question, HK. Why indeed ? My guess would be that these were mass printed for the Greek market- the second language on the card is Greek. They were cheaply done to sell A lot of them, perhaps.  I doubt they were cabinet pieces in Faberge frames. More likely the sort of thing that school girls would paste on their walls.

Great photo! Nicholasha towers over NII, but NII is so well proportioned that Nicholasha doesn't dwarf him. All that chinning up, walking, rowing and tennis pays off.
