Abbas Tumani - residence of GD Georgiy Alexandrovitch

Jmentanko:
Somebody please answer Thomas' question.

I really want to know.

Mike:
Abastumani was a popular mountain resort during the Soviet period. Now independent Georgia is undergoing a continuing political unrest and economic distress, and the whole area seems far from secure... They still maintain some facilities - see their supposedly English website. It makes no mention of Abastumani's Romanovs-related history but shows the beautiful scenery.

The place is well-known in the astrophysical scientific community due to a nearby observatory founded by GD George shortly before his death.

felix:
I cant recall the name of his home in the Caucasus, A.T.I think are the first letters of the two words. What ever happen to it and is it still in Russia?

jfkhaos:
George lived at Abas Tuman in the Caucasus Mountains, where the air was supposed to be more beneficial to him due to his tubercular condition.  He also had the first observatory (I think) built on the estate with his own money.  I haven't been able to find a picture of the estate, however.  Is anyone aware if there are any pictures floating around out there?  Thanks!

felix:
I have some, but no scanner! It was very beautiful.Do you know if its still in Russia?
