Beautiful family photos ;-)
Ortrud is a strange name, I've never heard ut before.... was she German?

Her father was Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein and she was the only child by his 2nd wife, Hertha Pss zu Isenburg-Büdingen. Ironically, Albrecht's first wife was named Ortrud. Two of Ortrud's brothers were KIA in WW2. Her 3rd brother, Friedrich, married Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin who was the first cousin of Ortrud's future husband. Despite the age discrepancies, Ortrud was first cousin to Duchess Victoria Adelheid of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Princess August Wilhelm of Prussia (VL's sister-in-law), Princess Helena of Denmark (married to Prince Harold, another cousin of Ernst August Sr), amongst others. She thus had a lot of connections to both her future mother-in-law and father-in-law.

i was wondering the same thing and comparing dates, Ernst A was towards the end of his life. The matrimony was in 1951 and he died two years after.

Right, and in this photo, he would be 64 years old, but looks like an 80 year old man.

You could really see a resemblance between him and his father in this photos--the balding head and glasses.

yes but when they were younger they were, at my opinion way different. Ernst August was much much handsome than his father

Yes, I agree. EA Jr was definitely a handsome fellow whereas no one accused his father of the same! It's just in the photos of him as an older man, there was something in the same of the head (revealed by no hair!) and the glasses that resembled some photos of his father as an older man. EA Sr's face was definitely heavier and coarser than his son's.

I'm thinking it had to do with the arrival of guests for her wedding in 1913.
