Brilliant, Maria-Nikolaevna, I like it a lot! The title fits really well, too. Like blessOTMA, I noticed how it speeds up, which is great, and the verses 'say' so much (well, you know what I mean).
Usually, poems about the murder aren't my particular forte. I suppose I avoid writing about it, since it's such a tragic part of their lives.

Hello all...just thought I'd try my hand at this and revive a really nice topic thread lying dormant for several months. This is more of a song structure though, for the most part, it's void of rhymes. Hope you enjoy and maybe others will start sharing their poetry again...

Dear OTMAA

Brought to earth a Russian angel five times over
Flew into your nest, canaries in a cage
Now you look from out of pictures, gaze of beauty
To feel the warm breeze laced with pangs of sorrow
Is how we know you’re always near
Love tied to the soul, like rings around a finger

Dear OTMAA this world
Has taken you from us
Forsaken not forgotten
By those who caused you harm
Deserving of a savior
Delivered the way of sin
To a palace in Heaven
You live among the stars

Sun Beam shines on Heaven’s gates with his reflection
Maria’s saucers fly in the beautiful sky
Olga and the Governess upon their throne
An Imp that fills our hearts with endless laughter
Are the visions that we hold dear
An eternal blessing of moments frozen in time

Dear OTMAA this world
Has taken you from us
Forsaken not forgotten
By those who caused you harm
Deserving of a savior
Delivered the way of sin
To a palace in Heaven
You live among the stars

Born of grace and innocence to a guilty world
Perished in a smoke filled cellar with blood stained walls
Slipped your earthly bonds one fateful summer evening
Transfixed and helpless we beg of your forgiveness
To be showered instead by love
You reign upon our hearts the most precious of gifts

Five beautiful flowers cut down while still in bloom
We carry you with us, in endless devotion

Dear OTMAA this world
Has taken you from us
Forsaken not forgotten
By those who caused you harm
Deserving of a savior
Delivered the way of sin
To a palace in Heaven
You live among the stars
Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right...

Inspired by blessOTMA's latest amazing tribute video, I wrote this:

We are trapped
The stifling air presses down
Windows painted shut.
Footsteps in the hall
Heavy boots
Remind us
That we are captives.

We can go
Nowhere
Now.
Not that we could
Ever go
Many places
Freely.

Comfort
Found in Sunday services
But abbreviated mass
Isn’t the same
As a church
With vaulted ceiling
Sacred hush
Richly colored icons.

Consolation
In each other
Our love for
One another.
Is it all that holds us
Together
Keeps us from breaking
Like so many china teacups?
Keeps us from smashing
Like a Faberge figurine?

Our love will survive
Stay strong
Keep us together
That much is certain
But how much longer
Will we last
Before the water engulfs us
Before we
Drown
Smash
Break?

Wow....and they were supposedly the most free  that they ever were....by  not being royal any more .
And yet became less and less free  with nearly each week of captivity.

Wonderful poem!

They were also 'free' in the sense that they could have been set free rather easily, at least during the first few months of captivity in Tsarskoe Selo. But what good is freedom guided by a broken heart and lost soul? They understood this...and while they may not have believed their fate would be a brutal death sentence they were aware of the potential dangers.

It's a testament to their love, courage and dignity. To die together a better fate than to live alone, and free...

Indeed...But you know even if the whole family somehow got away,  I don't believe Stalin would have ever left them in peace. That is the flaw in the wishing they escaped( as we all do ) ...for them there was no escape, no freedom,  while here...as Trotsky found out.

Good point, but there is a pretty big difference here in that Trotsky was a vocal critic and continued his pointed attacks against Stalin throughout his years in exile. He was a fellow revolutionary that Stalin felt betrayed by. Assuming OTMAA had been willing to part ways with their parents, and surely granted exile, I don't see the desire to eliminate them as political non-entities being anywheres near a strong as "Uncle Joe" wanting muzzle Trotsky. Obviously other Romanovs survived peacefully abroad after the Revolution.

Of course we'll never know for certain. Perhaps Alexei could have survived well into adulthood and would have provided that live banner to rally around afterall. The face and the voice of resistance to the communist state might have then convinced Stalin the need to eliminate the former Tsarevich...who knows.

Back in topic, I hope to be able to present another OTMAA tribute poem soon during this upcoming month of birthday celebration!

Stalin  just killed everyone who was there at the start like he was...one betrayed him by even remembering him from back then .Trotsky knew he was dead if he spoke out or not...so why not speak out ? Silence won't save you, go down at least swining .

not as strong, but Uncle Joe left no stone unturned. ( I happen to be reading of the 1930's Terror )

They weren't the main family and even Aunt Olga A. had to keep moving West
