Alexei - a reader?

Do you know if Alexei loved reading?

Not much, Sherlock Holmes went sometimes.  ;-). Literature was given to him by his tutors, and he listened parents reading aloud in Captivity. Will try for more details. He owned ' Pervii bukvar', 'The a-b-c book'. (In English).

When he was ill, Gilliard and other tutors spent a lot of time reading aloud to Aleksei. Novels and stories distracted him from the pain and tedium. However, I don'tknow if Aleksei enjoyed reading alone to himself as much as he liked listening to others read to him.

Perhaps he only enjoyed reading some kind of books, but sometimes teachers or in Alexei's case
tutors sometimes make you to read some books that honestly you wouldn't read alone

He seems to be more of a 'hands-on' type of person to me...you know, going to see things, drawing, making models of trains and ships, physical activity outdoors.
Kind of unfortunate considering his illness.

I'm thinking when he did read he probably would have liked adventure/hero type books. The latter 19th century was filled with those types of novels such as Jules Verne's works and Mark Twain's works. Though he may have been steered more toward European (Russian, French specifically) literature I think in general if reading he probably would have enjoyed adventure as a genre no matter what country the book originated from.

I agree, his main area of interest seems to be adventure, i think he would have enjoyed reading about his glorious ancestors like Peter the great, Catherine the great, Alexander ! and events like the defeat of Napolean. In short books that explored the glorious history of his nations past that would have inspired him to strive to achieve greatness when he inherited the throne. I dont think he liked reading by himself but i believe he loved to hear these stories.

I haven't read the book yet but it seems pretty interesting.
