Palace of GD Alexei Aleksandrovitch

One of the most architecturally interesting palaces in St. Petersburg is GD Aleksei Aleksandrovich's palace on the Moika.  I am curious to learn what state it is in.  As a student in St. Petersburg in the early 1990s, I often visited the palace, but have not seen it since 1995 (or so).  I will be in St. Petersburg in June and will defintely go by.  I am hoping that someone undertook a project to renovate this jewel.

I'm afraid I can't help much here as I have no very recent news - but when I last saw it in September 2002 it was firmly locked up and there was little sign of the renovation that was going on at the nearby Xenia palace and others (in preparation for the Tercentenary). Something may have happened since then, but I've not heard. I'd like to see it cared for properly too - it looks good, and I'm always a fan of the more modern stuff!

Hello Charles and Janet,
The palace was in the same neglected condition in August 2003, and without any hopes in my opinion for its restoration, at least in a near future.
I have a tiny floorplan and you can find some present views of the rooms in Katya Galitzine´s book: "St Petersbug: The hidden interiors".

According to information found online, the Faberge Arts Foundation/Petersburg Conservancy (a bi-national body, presumably of volunteer fundraisers?) has the restoration of this palace as one of its four prioirtities. No idea about time scales, though....

There is a wonderful engraving of Aleksei's Palace from the 1880's on the Fabergearts web site.  I tried to copy it as I have seen other pictures on the discussion board, but couldn't seem to do it, so here is the web site.  Maybe the administrator can post the engraving for all to see.

For those of you interested on this palace, there is in the book "The Sunset of the Romanov Dinasty", page 124, an old photograph of this palace´s staircase before the revolution. The photo is mistakenly represented(?) as Serguey´s and Ella´s palace´s staircase, in Nevsky Prospekt.

Watching "Agoniya" again tonight I was reminded that a couple of scenes were filmed at Alexei Alexandrovich's palace.

Out of curiousity which scenes from Agonia?  Its frustrating to not be able to recall.  I know there are a few scenes that were filmed in Grand Duke Mikhail Mikhailovich's palace on the Admiralty Enbamkment.

Now the palace is the privacy of one man living in Moscow now. He had began the renovation, but it seemed that he did not think that it will be cost so much.
Now all renovations works are stopped.
WE could just hope that the palace will go to other owner.
