I used to have troubles rcognizing Olga and Tatiana as little girls, but not any more. Only when the picture is too indistinct I may be fooled.

I never had trouble telling OTMA apart... but it sorta' depends on the quality of the picture...

Sometimes, in photographs where the girls are older, it's hard to tell Olga and Maria apart. At least for me. ;)

Definitely. Sometimes I can tell by the way their hair is parted, but it doesn't always work.

I think they can look remarkably like. Sometimes it's only Olga's bigger forehead or  Mashka bigger jaw that can help one
decide which is which!

I can pretty much always tell OTMA apart in pictures of them when they were older, although I also sometimes have trouble with Maria and Olga in more grown up photos. But ultimately they did become quite distinctive while growing, so it's never really that hard to tell them apart, for me.

Lol, that's too bad. I suppose that maybe you should have written to the publisher instead, because when I wrote a letter to a publisher in 2004/5 to compliment one of their books I received a detailed reply within two weeks. So I'm thinking that the most direct route to a response would be straight to the publishing house.

Yep, the girl in the picture is 1000000000% definitely Anastasia, it's one of the first pictures I ever saw of her! I don't have trouble telling OTMA apart, it's just if their faces are dark, or they're far away or not looking properly or like Tina said, bad quality that I have difficulty!

Indeed and that's why it's so madding when they are mixed up in a good photo !  They looked very  different! (but all gorgeous)
It's when the photo isn't a good one ,that  one becomes more aware of the family similarities.

I agree about the good photo quality vs bad. I can pretty much tell the girls apart in pictures past their toddler years. They became quite distinct then.

i can tell them apart prettly easyly
Olga-She was the tallest and she had a very "cropped" hair style also no matter what she was always taller than her sisters sitting or standing unless TMA were wearing heels then it would be harder to determine who was who
Tatiana-She always had a bobed hairstyle so it was quite easy to identify her in her later years but she was always shorter than Olga so the height would be a main factor in identifing her
Maria-She was rather plump in her years before her fathers abdicaton so it was not to hard to identify her and in her younger years she was one of the shorter sisters
Anastasia-She always had sharp face to me and she was always the shortest of the sisters so it wasn't to hard to identify unless she was alone or with either the governess, olenka or sometimes aloysha

Interestingly enough we know that Tatiana was the tallest one - even taller than her father, and Maria too was "tall for her age".

That is true. Olga was not the tallest for sure. The ease of determining which girl is which depends on what time period it was. There was a time when Tatiana's and Maria's height didn't stand out amongst them all and a time when Maria and Olga's youth made them look very similar. They also looked similar once Maria had her hair up.

I meant like uh (how do you say this?) "younger years"? Well anyways to add on to my posts Tatia's face had sort of a "oriental look" to it so later years wise
