Coryine Hall told me she sat in that room in the Serge Palace and nothing had changed inside.

Are there any pictures of Ella's fox terrier Petasha?

Is this the dog in question?

But that's definittely not a fox-terrier.

An example of Grand Duchess Elizabeth's painting. She was Very good. I wonder who the lady is. Does she seem familiar to anyone?

Very nice - are there more?
The lady is her close friend and favorite lady-in-waiting Yekaterina Nikolaevna Kozlianinova ("Miss Kitty").

I wish there were! I stumbled across this by accident. A lucky find which I thought I'd share. Thank you for the ID. It makes sense she would paint Kitty as I understand they were quite close.

Painting of Princess Zenaida Yusupova by Grand Duchess Elizabeth. Wish I had a copy in color.  :(

This painting was displayed in the Yusupov's estate of Koriez. They were able to take the painting with them into exile where it remains in the family's private collection. You can actually see the painting behind Felix Yusupov in the last interview he gave before his death.

Can you post it without the watermark. It is only a b/w copy.

It's a pity it's never been properly reproduced. It looks very like Zenaida.  She seems to have restricted her portraits to close family and friends and to have been trained well in pastels. There are a number of photos of Elizabeth painting (and Alexandra) and I've always wondered what happened to their artworks.  From the look of these two pieces she could have made a living out of it if needed. In some ways I prefer what I've seen of her work than what Olga paints, though they are very different.  I think it's well past time someone produced a book on the art works of royal ladies in the 19th century.

Yes. I think she also learned from the painters who painted her. I often wondered it is sad that De Laszlo never painted either Ella or Alicky. I think von Angeli painted Alicky but not Ella...

I wonder if Ella ever painted Alexandra. I would think there would be a good chance of it when they were younger, but I've never seen such a picture.

Ella did paint her sister. The portrait has been displayed at the recent opening of the newly restored rooms of the Alexander Palace.
