It's easy to find clothes like OTMA'S one!

I agree, since one of the dolls is supposed to be from 1912. And I think they actually have a new one now from 1914... their outfits would probably work. And if you're creative you could even make your own. My grandma used to make me clothes for my American Girl dolls... I'll have to look around for them next time I go home to see if any are OTMA-like!

Yes! :) The character Samantha is supposedly from 1904, and Rebecca is from 1914 (In her story she's actually FROM RUSSIA lol But sadly in the back of the book it talks badly of Tsar Nicholas II [Her character is Jewish and moved to America to escape the pogroms]).

A lot of her accessories are supposed to be Russian though. Like her brooch and shawl:

http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/static/rebeccadoll.jsf/title/Rebecca/saleGroupId/1182/uniqueId/628/nodeId/11/webMenuId/5/LeftMenu/TRUE

I find Sam's collection is more OTMA-like.

Especially this dress:

(You'll have to forgive me, I'm a hardcore collector of these dolls. ;) ).

Oh, that's right. I was thinking Samantha was from the 1910s. I'd heard the new doll was from Russia and I got excited. :) I actually went to the children's section in my bookstore the other day and skimmed through the "Meet Rebecca" book! And don't worry, I used to collect them too. I have all but one of the original girls. I keep forgetting to buy her to complete the set... better do it before they retire them all!

Now, how many things labled "American" in the title speak nicely about any tsar/emperor/king?  Here, our culture teaches us to think that any country with a monarchy is backwards and messed up, so I'm not surprised American Girl Dolls didn't exactly spare Nicky...

Oh, wonder how that works out? *rolls eyes*  That's why I write.  I try bringing a bit of Europe to America, because Obama was wrong about America having to be #1 in the world.  I mean, really, you can't get anywhere in the world if you don't understand other cultures like they do yours.

^ Exactly. And it's sad that America is that way, considering it is a country made up of people from all over the world. You'd think Americans would be a tad more open minded.

Quite a number of British actors have made a big success in Hollywood by specialising in playing villains - just look at Anthony Hopkins!

You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when you search your European History syllabus, find the date the lecture will be on the last Imperial Family, and tote your massive Romanov Photo Album to class that day to pass around.

maybe it's because many of those people came here to escape monarchies and stuff like that.  IDK.  My mom came here because her sister dragged her to go to school...

Happens a ton, especially in American schools.  i know I probably sound like some American-hating terrorist or something, but I get pretty ticked off on how America doesn't like royalty, unless it's a Disney princess.  They're not THAT bad for the the most part...

that's an extremely inflammatory statement.   do you know for sure it happens in American schools?  I'm an American so i beg to differ. Where did you get the idea about disney princesses? where did you get the idea that America doesn't like royalty?  in college i specifically took a course in Imperial Russian history.  i loved it and i wanted to learn more.  the Forum is giving me that opportunity.

I don't believe you're a sound alike  American terrorist  but i think you have been misinformed.  America is a democratic nation therefore we have no royal rulers.  we have presidents.  in Europe
do you learn about USA presidents?

i do agree America is a nation of people from all over the world.   everyone is able to have an opinion just as you have stated yours.  i joined this Forum so i could learn about the Romanovs and i have  but i do believe we all can learn  from each other regardless of our school background, nationality and /or anything else.

Kind Regards,
imperatrice

That's funny, RomanovMartyrs :P. We unly have a couple units to go in my world history class until we get to the Russian Revolution. I'm so excited.
That brings me to two more.

...when you feel annoyed when only two of the IF children's names are mentioned in your history textbook (Alexei and Anastasia in mine).
...when you count down the units in History all year until Russian Revolution. It's all just so interesting!

imperatrice, I agree with you. Often, ignorance or not being taught of a subject, like monarchy not being taught especially positively in American schools (I'm American as well) can be taken as dislike. Certainly everyone in America has different opinions on the subject and generally someone's negative opinion of monarchy/royalty isn't just becuase it's a monarchy, but is founded on whether or not the system works. People in America are fond of their freedom and of democracy so a system so different is hard to accept. So I agree with you.
