Im laughing at your post about Enya songs fitting the OTMAs.
I used to do this and thought I was the only one! hahaha. I used the songs "Exile" from the album Watermark and theres another from Enya's album called "Shepherd moons" to songs which go great for ruminating on the Romanovs together called "I dreamnt I dwelt in marble halls" and "Evacuee". im so obsessed that when i was still in high school i compiled a collection of music into a musical version of Anastasia that I danced around the house and backyard too. lol.

I'm so obssessed ive actually created a troupe of Russian Romanov emigrees as characters in my game "the sims", writing that makes me think im not so healthy lol.

re diaries, they have been published and are available in several books. one ive read some of them is "a lifelong passion" which is really good

I know exactly what you mean...I don't have "the sims" but I want to get it...for the sole reason of making sims of the Imperial Family XD
I made Miis of them on my Wii though. Lol.

I think any thing the Hermitage didn't take away in 1941,  before the Nazi's got to AP, was most likely stolen or wrecked. However there could be a box of thier desk stuff somewhere in the Hermitage...why not? They seem to save a great deal. It's a matter of where in that huge place and then the will to find it. Perhaps some day someone will stumble across such a box  when looking for something else? I think there are still Romanov surprises ahead :)

I hope so, I'd love to see that stuff. The Hermitage is HUGE! :o I've never been there but I've seen pictures. It's gorgeous.

Of course, there are tons of things like that belonging to them that are still around. When I was fifteen I got to see a lot of their personal things in real life.

The Pavlosk Palace actually has quite a lot of the furniture which rightfully belongs in the Alexander Palace. They just won't give it back : D

Ha! I thought of another one, but I can't modify my last post-

I once "Google-Earthed" Yekaterinburg.

I used to do that all the time, they barely changed the satellite image. It was more sunny the day they took the older one. The new one is more darker.

You know you're obsessed when the only reason you enter an essay contest is because the prize money is enough to get you, your mom, and your favorite social studies teacher (who has wanted to go to Russia since the 70's when she was in collage), and a friend or two to St. Petersburg to see all the palaces, historic sites, etc.  You also know you're obsessed when you feel like exploding because the teacher to whom you entrusted the essay never turned it in, and you tell him he owes you a few plane tickets to Russia.

That is what happened to me.  I'll never forgive that teacher, and if I told my old social studies teacher that, she wouldn't either.

Yes, it was amazing. I saw paintings and notes by OTMA and clothing and photo albums and all that kind of stuff. I went to another exhibit last year where they had icons that belonged to them as well. I'd love to go to that Faberge exhibit myself. Luckily it's not far from me. I might be studying in Russia this summer and if I end up going I'll get to be in Tsarskoe Selo when they've converted the whole thing to a museum for the first time! If you look around every now and then there are often Russian/Romanov related exhibits in the USA.

You are indeed a most fortunate individual to have the chance of visiting Russia! I hope no maladies or other encumbrances get in your way! : D

You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when...

... you start screaming "That's Nicky!" in the middle of a restaurant because they're playing a documentary about the Romanovs.  :)
