You are indeed a most fortunate individual to have the chance of visiting Russia! I hope no maladies or other encumbrances get in your way! : D

And the teacher who gave it to me wasn't even my teacher. I was on him academic team, I won the school geography bee in front of him, and he knows I'm a writer by heart.  I'm notorious at my school, and practically everyone knows my name, so I get these extra opportunities. For example, right now, my brain is frying because I am trying to write another essay, where the theme is "Who's My Neighbor?", and I have to write anything I want, as long as it pertains to how it is important to recognize the different cultures around you.  It's a state-wide competition, and the top prize is a ten-day trip to Turkey.  I'm pretty confident that I can beat a bunch of southerners any day.  Now to figure out what to write.....

P.S. see why other kids call me a nerd? XD

From your remarks, I gather that your Fayetteville, Georgia school system (Fayette County) isn't particularly challenging?  Fayetteville is apparently a small place.  AP

You do know that Georgia's schools came 49th out of 50 states on the U.S.'s best schools list, right?  Fayette County has the best schools in the state, but we seem to be the best of the worst.

You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when...

... you start screaming "That's Nicky!" in the middle of a restaurant because they're playing a documentary about the Romanovs.  :)

LOL! I get very excited when I see them mentioned in shows or documentaries.

Good luck on your essay, Ekaterina!

I drop whatver I'm doing and go to watch it! Especially because things about them don't come on TV that often.

You have to be seriously starry-eyed about the Russian cavalry to spend two of your previous 48 hours in St Petersburg plodding up and down the Lermontovsky Prospect in search of the former premises of the Nikolaievsky Cavalry School!

For those equally obsessed, it is on the left-hand side, going out of the centre, with a statue of Mikhail Lermontov in front.

You know you're obsessed when you get angry with another monarch for stealing you interest.  Right now, I'd love to go to the Imperial Crypt in Vienna, go to Empress Sissi's coffin, and scream "GET OUT OF MY MIND!  I GAVE MY HEART TO NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA AND ALL THEIR CHILDREN, AND YOU HAD NO RIGHT TO TAKE IT!"

Well, I wouldn't actually do that, but I wish I could.  I'd probably leave flowers and cry a bit....

Fear not! I have learned after 35-40 years, that  Romanov fever only goes dormant, it never goes away! One can be interested in something else for years....then you see a book , or a photo and  Bam!  the Romanov's are back...and stronger too! Once they claim you, that's it. I don't think they will mind sharing you with Sissi'.They know it's only a loan! lol!

Totally agree with dear blessOTMA.

I do not want to be a teacher, mentor, adviser or something else. But dear Ekaterina, you are very young (I'm also, but a little bit older), and you, with no doubt, as an intelligent and reflective person (I hope you are;)) will change your interests and political (social, philosophic) views in your future life dramatically, from Conservatism to Liberalism, from Romanovs to Lenin and Sverdlov, from freedom to "equality", and so on, and so on.... Of course the main "gap" of the changes and defining age, when you finally form your own views, can be very different from person to person, but this is the law. The law of an intelligent human. So, I can only advice you not to resist to your new passion with the beautiful Madam Sissi. Maybe after Madam Sissi you will interested in a more serious and defining historical persons.

P.S. I can assume, relying on the speed of your nickname changes, that your views, with no doubt, would change with the same quickness;)

You're right.  For me, they went dormant for about a year.  Then about winter of last year, my mom borrowed a book on the Romanovs for me, and kaboom, it woke up.  Then, i went a few months focusing on Eva Peron in the fall last year, but it just came back at me like a boomerang.  You're totally right.  I am on loan.  I just wonder why this Sissi phase didn't come sooner, because I've known about her since I was very little (kudos Rick Steve's Europe) and I was somewhat interested in her since this summer.

I blame Eva Peron for getting me into Sissi, though.  Somehow, looking up "don't cry for me argentina german" on Youtube got me onto a video with Pia Douwes and Uwe Kroeger covering different songs from differnet musicals in German, and then I saw a link to a clip from "Elisabeth das Musical."  I was intrigued because I recognized the dress Pia was wearing in the thumbnail picture, so i clicked on it and listened to the song.  A month or two later, I decided to see if I could find the full muscial and I fell in love.  So thank you, Evita, for bringing me to Sissi, whom I've known about since I was about 5 years old but never payed attention to.  Wow, I can't believe I just typed all that.

P.S. I can assume, relying on the speed of your nickname changes, that your views, with no doubt, would change with the same quickness;)

Actually, the reason I change it a lot is because I have so many things to say. ;)

P.S. I sure hope my Romanov obsession doesn't come back stronger, because it was pretty strong before Sissi.  I could die from it if it were any stronger.

Imagine turning on the news and you hear "and in world news tonight, a young girl from the United States died from a heart attack because of a long time super-obsession with the Romanovs of Russia.  The remaining members of the family refuse to comment...."

Right, when you are want to say someone "many things", or to debate with somebody is called simlpy like political and social views.;)

Ekaterina, let's make a kind of bet, that your views will change dramatically and after a half-year or after the whole year you would be wearing shirts with different freedom fighters or different socialist leaders on them, instead of studying the life of Alexandra Feodorovna or other boring royalty stories. Then you will said, something like: "How could I been studying those boring things. Now I'm going to change the world!".

And I wish you not to have a heart attack because of the Romanovs.;)

If you find the life of Alexandra Feodorovna, I'd love to know why you're on what is mainly a Russian history and royalty website.
One person's view of what is interesting and intelligent is merely that person's opinion. To say that changing your political or social views reflects on a person's intelligence is an ignorant statement to make.

Although there is a thin line between obsession and passion, there is also a huge difference. Someone having an obsession means it comes and goes, but if you have a passion for something, it never goes away no matter how hard you may try. It's a part of you. And when it's a part of you, you'll know.
