That's right Jen even in travel shows when it is about St Petersburg in regards to Palaces,  it's always the Hermitage,  Catherine and Peterhof.   I don't think I have come across a travel show featuring Alexander Palace.

I think this was  the original purpose of AP Time Machine website - to make more people aware of the historical value of this once beautiful palace.   I don't remember how I originally found this website, but when I did I was instantly hooked, and yes, obsessed.   Hopefully, it will be completely restored to its original beauty soon, will attract more visitors and make more people outside of Russia aware of the beautiful family that once lived here.

Yes, I'd never heard of the AP until I learnt about the last IF. And then I joined this forum and learnt more about the AP. I do hope that it is restored to it's beauty soon too.

Rosie, what was the confusion though? Did you call it the 'AP' instead of 'Alexander Palace' and that was the reason for the blank stares? Or did people not recognize Alexander Palace as being one of the premier tourist attractions in and around the city?

I said Alexander Palace,  I only refer to it as AP when on this forum or talking to other members.   My co-workers are in their mid 30s to late 40s and I'm pretty sure the ones who gave me a look of confusion have not heard of the Alexander Palace.   They would know of Peterhof,  Hermitage and the Catherine Palace as they are the more famous palaces in St Petersburg.    The guy who I was talking to knew the AP and it's history while the others didn't.    I did say I would like to see all the palaces, and AP would be one of the ones I want to check out on my list of things to see.  I wasn't bragging to them that I want to see it the Alexander Palace, I said I would like to see Gatchina, Peterhof, Hermitage, Catheriene (which they all said that would be great to see how the Imperial Family live) and I added "If you want to see the home of the last Tsar check out Alexander Palace."

So you see not alot of people know the of the Alexander Palace as a premier tourist attraction of St Petersburg.

Interesting. I did not realize that.

So I guess my Disney parallel would have been more accurate had I said "I'm hoping to get to Disney World...and specifically Blizzard Beach" :-)

YKYOWTRW...you're colouring Easter eggs with the child(ren) and you attempt a Faberge-inspired design - sans mechanics, of course - but it still didn't turn out all that well. : P

No, your Disney Parallel comments and questions makes you sound like a dunderhead.  Even a person who has had a date with an ice pick through the eye socket sounds more intelligent in thought then you do.

What the hell?

Really Rosie? My extremely lighthearted comment on what is an equally lighthearted comment thread was enough to draw that sort of comment from you?

Care to resolve this through PM?

I have deleted Chantelle's (rosieposie) insulting post to Edubs, as it clearly violates the rules of this forum.

Respect your fellow posters here, even if you don't agree with them.  Thank you.

Indeed so. I'd love to attempt to do that. Faberge eggs are beautiful.

YKYOWTRW:  You mean someone with the same name as one of the GD's and can't help but wonder if they were named after said GD.

When you are instructing on a Cadet Force course and meet a Sergeant of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. You instantly think, 'I must check whether the black patch behind your cap badge is mourning for Nicholas II.'

And when you are listening in to a conversation between this Sergeant and two others on the extreme poshness of their officers, and wonder how well Nicholas would have fitted in to the Officers' Mess of the modern Scots DGs.
