You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when... Part 2

I'm late to the party, but those are amazing paintings! OTA's hair colors look like they might be exactly right, but I always imagined Maria's to be a little lighter.

First of all - Happy New Year to all here on the AP site! 

Today I watched The Sound of Music (for the thousandth time!) and for some reason everything in the movie made me think of the Romanov's.  The movie was set in a different country, different war, but in my mind today I kept noticing so many similarites: the beautiful, innocent children, the love between the parents, the beautiful estate that they eventually had to flee.   I could imagine OTMAA romping around Tsarskoe Selo singing DO RE ME and Favorite Things.   Yes, today I was somewhat obsessed with the Romanov's and I'll never see the Sound of Music in the same way again.   Has anyone else had this experience with other movies or have I finally gone over the edge with my obsession?

Indeed not! I have often thought that Mashka would sneak out to meet a boyfriend (if given the opportunity) and would dance with him in the rain. And Anastasia and Alexei would have fun thinking up ways to get rid of governesses!

This morning, I passed a restaurant called 'Revolution'. Outside on the tables were information cards on different revolutions in the world. I was the only person to pick up a card, which was on (guess what?) the Russian Revolution.

When last semester on your final for History of Western Civilization(covering really nothing related to Russia what so ever) and when talking about ancient Greece and the Roman empire in a short essay manage to tie in the Romanovs. Weather or not what I said was correct I don't know, but I did it! =D

Haha, same here and same for many people I'm certain. My obsession is along these lines but a more general one...I simply figure out a way, subconsciously or not, to work the Romanov's into virtually any "interesting" conversation that lasts more than 10-15 minutes. It's like "Six Degrees of OTMA" or something. For example...

Topic of Discussion: Flyers Hockey

1) Flyers discussion begins
2) Wow the Flyers are inconsistent this season, so too have the 76ers been lately after a great start...
3) Speaking of the Sixers, today is the 50th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game...

That is brilliant, edubs31! I'm pretty much like that, any conversation I have with family, etc, I always somehow manage to find a connection to the Romanov family. 

YKYOWTR when you got to a museum and try and find something that is connected to the Romanov family in there....

I remember going to Edinburgh Castle and they had a museum for the Royal Scots Greys, the regiment Nicholas II was Colonel in Cheif for. I went in and began to search for anything about him in there and what do I see?! A huge painting of Nicholas II with some infomation (http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1430177).

Indeed, and I  realized later what is diffrent about Nicholas in that painting ( besides the UK uniform!) it's  that he's looking so intensely at the viewer. Usually he appears more placid in his portaits
