Ropsha Palace

Hello!
This forum popped up as a real goldmine - I have been looking around for any kind of information about the Ropsha palace, and here is a complete plan over both floors! Thanks a lot!
I'll probably hang around a bit here. Besides my general, great interest in the Romanov family, I am right now building a role-playing game campaign taking place in Russia 1764, where the players will visit Sankt Peterburg, Ropsha and eventually Schlüsselburg. Now I won't have to make the whole architecture up myself!

Beautiful building, but the little cupola sticking out the top looks out of place, the scale is wrong in relation to the size of the building. Such a pity the building is in ruins today. The loss of this building, and that of the English Palace in Peterhof is a great loss I think. The doric columns and steps leading to the entrance are quite similar.

Here is a small pic of Ropsha c1970 with the tower still there. I wonder if it was a telegraphic tower.

The 1st book I've seen only the cover, I think it must be in most local libraries as the year of publishing is 1968.

About the 2nd modern book, well, only 3/4 of it is interesting for reading as the author also writes trivial facts about the Strelna palace and Oranienbaum Palace and modern situation on the whole area and so on. If you want to read the book, just PM me, I have it in digital version.

According to what I read there is project to re-build the imperial park and palace of Ropsha.



It has been developed by a group of European companies. According to the plan, the re-constructed Ropsha Palace will be opened as a 5-star hotel. 50 private villas are being built in the park. International congress-center is also developed on the site. Adjacent area is planned for entertainment center with a casino, a supermarket, and seven restaurants.


In a way, it seems to be a desaster however, it would eb interesting to see what would the shape of the palace and of the park after atfer the renovation, for the moment being the whole field is a real wreck...

Actually I think they should demolish it, it looks worse than any of the other palaces after WWII.

The thought of a supermarket and casino is too horrific for words. This is tantamount to having them turn the Catherine Palace into a theme park, or the Alexandra palace into a boarding house.

Rather nothing than this. Strange how property developers always get the upper hand.

I love Ropsha.
The pictures on the link ..livefeed.. are absolutely amazing.
It was very difficult to find the palace in 2006 even with the help of our Russian driver - people did not seem to know it even though the town was right beside it. It looked very run down and very unsafe. But I fell in love with the whole structure even with the wooden scaffolding surrounding the front facade. And the history of the building is lovely.
So I think that in spite of developer dreams I would like to see it restored.
I wonder how much tourist activity a hotel would generate because it is a remote palace and difficult to get to.

Its horrific to compare the last photograph to the ruins one sees today. Absolutely pristine to rubble, since the 1980's. It looks as if it has been bombed. Very sad. This is going to be a very expensive and huge restoration job !
