•   We have the floor plans/descriptions c1917 and yet we have little clue to the use of the rooms through the years. Could Orbelani’s room have been #17 until the changes required for Alexei’s suite and she then moved to the right wing. Where was Orchie’s room? Most likely #23 or so near to Orbelani and the girls.

I've had a look at the plans in Yakovlev 1927 in hopes of finding a pre-N&A diagram of the upper floor, but it appears only the original main floor plans (and variants) are included.

So is #61 not a possibility? The quotes about the sickroom being near the playroom confuse me too. So the plans that we have here are before the 1915-16 renovations?

I think I'm confused about the history of Alexei's rooms. Joanna has given us a lot of information and maybe it's just bouncing around in my head, but did Alexei or did Alexei not use #13-14 for his rooms before 1913? If he didn't sleep there, where did he sleep? And if he did sleep there, why would they make his room the sickroom instead of using a lesser-used room?

If I'm understanding correctly, those were Aleksei's rooms all along, but they were remodeled in 1915-16.

I believe Alexie slept in room #17 after the remodel of 1915-16.  That way he was able to move from his baby room to a more grown up room.  This is typical of families with large homes...sort of symbolic..  His former Baby Room was converted into the Sick Room.  This seems logical to me.  Also,  we remember the Tsar said the Sick Room was next to the large Playroom.

Thank you for clarifying that for me, Sarushka.

That would make sense, but if Alexei moved into #17 after the remodeling in 1915-16, and the room was being used as a sickroom in 1913 for Tatiana, where did he sleep then? #17 anyway?

He could have slept in #15.  The beds were very easy to move.
