I have not read these threads, staying with Russian history. But I'm going to be in Saint Petersburg for two full days plus. Can people say what places must be visited?

Many thanks Vladimir for the links!

Do you know if ЦАРСКОГОСЕЛА ПРЕСС plan to be online again or will it remain only print edition?

No! New director hates people that read his newspaper for free.

It is so exciting to see what is being rebuilt at the palaces these days.  I know that the Farm Palace at Peterhof is being restored, but does anyone know what is being worked on at the other palaces?  Are any of Catherine the Great's rooms at the Catherine palace being worked on currently?  Will the tragic death of Dr. Sautov change things at Tsarskoye Selo?  Is much going on at Gatchina?

I apologize for all the questions, but I am endlessly curious, sadly illiterate when it comes to Russian, and unable to travel to Russia at present.  This is the only way I can experience these places (for now).

Thanks.

Is much going on at Gatchina?

Gatchina has the same problem as the Alexander Palace had: many owners.
Gatchina is a state (federal) monument, but it is a museum, that belongs to St Petersburg government.
But it is located in Leningradskaya oblast (St Petersburg and Leningradskaya oblast are the different federal states).
The State (Russia) wants to pass Gatchina palace and park complex to the regional level
but St Petersburg and Leningradskaya oblast can`t decide who will be the successor.

This is the English translation URL of the previous webpage posted by Vladimir concerning the restoration of the AP.

What she actually said about the AP:  Russian = English

"300 th anniversary of town - plank of the reserve team must necessarily take. Но юбилей для нас не финиш, а только очередная станция. But an anniversary for us not to finish, but the next station. Работы на две жизни хватит. Work on two life enough. Надо начинать восстанавливать Александровский парк, Александровский дворец... We must begin to rebuild Alexander Park, the Alexander Palace ...

- What are you going to start?

- Specifically, did not answer. I need to read all documents, deeds, to talk with each manager, with museum staff, learn about their plans, expectations, prospects. All this is to evaluate and understand that the next move together, to start - to yubileynomu"

Thanks Vladimir for the update. It appears that the military still occupy the right wing if the enfilade rooms will have the exhibit in 2010. From my understanding of the article, the Museum will work on the exterior of the AP during the next two years and then after the anniversary celebrations of 2010, will have the funds and time to concentrate on the palace and park. One issue are funds as the allocation will be determined in December and with the financial crisis, it may impede future plans.
