Well, this might be true...for example,Queen Elisabeth II is a direct descendant of Vlad Dracul of Wallachia,as well as half of European nobility,so I don't think there is much fuss about it...but an interesting fact about Tatiana anyway...

Hi,

Personally, I'd love to see Nicholas & Tatiana marry in Athens...
Since he was cheated out of being born in the country, it would be quite a coup & a good snub in the face to those republican idiots to marry there and invite most of European Royalty to the event.

Arturo & John -
I like the Grande Bretagne too;  although I haven't stayed there in years.
Love the rooftop restaurant atop the Intercontinental too!!  Marvellous view and great service...

If we are talking about restaurants and hotels in Greece............

Many years ago, in 1991, when I was still in the army here in Oz, I was involved in a small way for  the preparations for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary for the batttle of Crete.

Tha Australian Army sent over 150 soldiers to Athens and then Crete to parade, mount guard and basically honour the fallen.
Prior to the main contigent arriving, the 2nd Secretary of the Aussie Embassy,a full colonel, myself and the colonels wife, spent a day touring parts of Athens and the Temple of Poseidon outside of Athens.
We had lunch at a seaside taverna.
My goodness, I will never forget that meal, everything was laid on,including oven roasted kid(baby goat).
If I ever find that taverna again, i'll buy it!!

 :) :) :)

I think Greek food is quite a league by itself.

Some more obscure information on the bride's ancestry:

Tatiana Blatnik is the maternal granddaughter of Ellinka, born Countess of Einsiedel. Ellinka's 4x great grandfather was Count Ditlev Reventlow, the tutor of mad King Christian VII of Denmark. With his harsh manner he failed to give the poor Christian the upbringing he needed, or alternatively, failed to make himself so beloved by his charge that he obtained lasting influence over him.

As we know, that influence was obtained by Dr. Struensee, who through, Louise, la petite Struensee, Duchess of Augustenburg, his natural daughter with Christian VII's tragic Queen Caroline Mathilde, is an ancestor of Tatiana's fiancé Prince Nikolaos! Certainly the descendants of two powerful influences on the mad Christian VII are to be united in marriage.

That will have to do while we eagerly await more unions of Danish devil's spawn:

When the descendants of the arch-traitor Corfitz Ulfeldt and his semi-royal morganaut wife Leonora Christina, among them the Swedish Counts Beck-Friis (murdered Swedish premier Olof Palme's wife was one); the Krag-Juel-Vind-Frijs descendants of the daughter of the Danish Richelieu, the disgraced absolutist chancellor Griffenfeld, whose blood now runs through most of the higher Danish nobility and the royal descendants of Strueensee, who as Augustenburgs also became traitors to Denmark - when they marry each other, and as far as I can see they still haven't, their offspring will certainly be a rotten apple in the state of Denmark!

the last comment.....
"their offspring will certainly be a rotten apple in the state of Denmark!"
seems to me to be extremely rude and inappropriate.
I only hope that the language you originally wrote it in, was mistranslated when you "babel fished" it.
If however,
YOU ACTUALLY MEAN IT!!!!!!!

It is nothing more than the highest level of rudeness and loathing.
To criticise an as yet not conceived child or children,  let alone the future marriage of a Greek Prince, and to do it publicly and in such bad language beggars belief.......

I do not know what your problem is with either Nikolaos or Tatiana,or their families,  nor do I want to, but I would advise you to treat this forum with respect, and when you do discuss members of any Royal Family, to do it with decorum and some sort of humanity.

Ilias of John!
If you read my post more carefully, you will see that the term "rotten apple in the state of Denmark" was not applied to any future offspring of Prince Nikolaos and his fiancée, but to any offspring of unions that unite the lines of "bad guys" in the royal history of Danmark: Corfitz Ulfeldt, Griffenfeld and Struensee.

Though I can see how people might be offended by the line "That [i.e. Tatiana and Nikolaos' engagement] will have to do while we eagerly await more unions of Danish devil's spawn:". If so, I apologize. I didn't think anybody would read it literally. The idea that children are "devil's spawn" or "rotten apples" just because their 10x-great grandfathers were shady royal favourites or traitors is of course just as far-fetched as the fact that Ms. Blatnik's descent from the "Blood Countess" Erzsebet Báthory should have any significance for her actual character. I thought everybody would understand that it's purely academic and only of historical interest.

I am offended. To me the Danish Royal Family is one of the best and most in tune in modern society. They (Glucksborgs--both Danish & Greek lines) were the first to invite morganetic families & even commoners into their ranks. The list reads like a who's who in history (Marie Bonaparte (friend & benifector of Freud), Alice Battenberg ( acting nun and rescuers of Jews in WW II), Eleanor Green (American, wife of Prince Viggo) and the latest Alexandra Manley (now divorced and Countess of Frederiksborg), the first European Princess to have Asian blood). So I don't see the rotten apple or devil's spawn...

Øh...perhaps because they don't exist yet? My speculative, not-meant-to-be-taken-too-serious pet theory was after all that they would be the products of unions between the descendants of Ulfeldt, Griffenfeld and Struensee, bloodlines which haven't intermarried yet, as far as I can see.

OK, I think we can move on now. The mods received several complaints about the postings. I haven't received any indication that they are to removed so they stay. It is the FA's stated policy that comments about living royals be respectful in tone. I don't believe that Tainyi sovetnik meant any disrespect to any royals, living or dead, and was rather making a point about some unsavory characters in the past and the possibilty of them one day having a common descendant--if I myself have misinterpreted this, feel free to correct me. I think it's pretty clear Tainyi sovetnik was NOT referring to any members of the Danish/Greek royal family so no need to list their virtues.  I'll admit I was rather confused by the postings but I think I have the gist of it. I think the point of the posts has been made and, since it has apparently been open to (mis)interpretation, I think that it is best to move on to discussing the actual topic of the marriage and its participants.

How can the term,
"That will have to do while we eagerly await more unions of Danish devil's spawn"

be anything but vile and horrendous slander???

Let alone completely and utterly disrepectful of the Danish and Greek Royal families?

It seemed to me more a slight on Struenssee who is neither a Greek royal nor a Danish royal nor alive--he is the 'devil' being referred to.  I also believe there are some translation problems here. I think the point has been made. The complaints were sent, I believe, to all the moderators, and no one else has weighed in. The poster is aware of people's feelings, I have stated the FA's policy towards living royals and I think it is time to move on now.
