Anastasia's BFF??
« on: January 14, 2010, 03:36:55 AM »
Sounds silly, and I'm fairly certain it is, but if anyone could by using information discredit this, I'd be most appreciative. I won't attack the girl with the information you give me, it would just give me piece of mind.

A contact on YouTube claims her grandmother was Anastasia's secret friend. The grandmother's name was Elanor. The Elanor's mother supposedly worked in the palace (AP, that is), and once Elanor happened to accompany her mother to work in 1910. Apparently she was carrying some clothing to be laundered, tripped and fell and caught Anastasia's eye in passing. The two supposedly became friends after that. The girl mentions her grandmother and Anastasia writing letters to one another, and playing hide and seek on Children's Island with Maria and Tatiana. She also claims that Anastasia gave Elanor one of her dresses, and in a private youtube video, the girl has the ribbon Anastasia supposedly wore for the Tricentennial photo shoot. She also claims to still own a doll Anastasia gave to Elanor for her birthday.

I'm greatly flustered by things like this. So if anyone knows reasons this is impossible I'd be very appreciative. I can get a photo of the ribbon she supposedly owns too, if anyone would like.

Thanks guys!

Elanor? And she´s supposed to be Russian? Elanor is a name from Tolkien´s Lord of the Rings. As much as I´d love to believe something like this, I rather doubt it.

It sounds hard to believe because I heard that Alexandra didn't let someone play with her daughter, I really want this to be true but I doubt much because it doesn't seem to be real. Even if I would like it to be real I can't accepted it as true.

I would like it to be real too, and I've been nothing but nice to the girl claiming it, because she's a nice girl, and because she keeps telling me more so long as I'm nice. So maybe I should re-word my request of you guys, not to disprove, but rather give proof?

You do have a point about Alexandra, and this girl says that once Nicholas found out where the friend came from they were forbidden to play anymore, and that afterwards the girls could only exchange secret letters through Elanor's mother. But I don't know.

My other question would be, if it's not true, and the girl isn't so deluded as to think it's true, why does one claim these types of things?

I really appreciate feedback! :)

Attention: "RomanovMartyrs" and your initial post of this topic and your reply # 3:   Providing what you say is true, I would offer that the "key" to this relationship is neatly stated by you in the following:  ".....and because she keeps telling me more SO LONG AS I'M NICE  (emphasis mine)."  The "secret friend" theme is popular because it holds the mystique of "forbidden/unknown" knowledge, pleasure, etc. Everyone from that time is dead, including this (probably fictional ) "Elanor," so who can prove it? Ribbons, etc. can be bought.   In my opinion, this young girl apparently has done some background research, seen a movie, etc. and is expanding/feeding off it for attention. Obviously YOU have detected this as well.  I would continue to be nice, unless she becomes obsessive and "smothers" you with such nonsense.  Regards,  AP

Sounds like the plot of all the Anastasia fiction books I own. Haha.

I very highly doubt it is true. She's probably just a bored girl looking to add some interest in her life.

These are screenshots from the video. I would just link you but it's private.

It's supposedly the ribbon in her hair in this photo:

Now I'm no expert on the aging process of ribbon, but...I'm skeptical.

And I believe she says (in the video) that her GRANDMOTHER made it? ("...because my grandmother made it.")  Hummmmmmm..........  Bows similiar to this have been made for many, many years.  On my visits to Russia, I have personally seen young grade-school girls, usually on outings with their family or school-mates, with large white bows in their hair, generally in the top back-center.  ( In the picture of the grandduchess, it would APPEAR to be that the bow is potentially formed from the terminal ribbon ends of the fabric-covered kokoshnik.)  AP

YES! That's a great realization, AP! I have a little doll with a replica kokoshnik and that's exactly how it is! In theory, there may be no bow at all?

And thanks for posting the video, she told me it was private....interesting...

Thank you for your kind reply, "RomanovMartyrs,"  but concerning the video, I did not post it, someone else did.  Best regards,  AP.

Yes, I'm quite certain that the ribbon was attached to the kokoshnik. I may be wrong, but wasn't the ribbon pink? Or maybe I'm just thinking of colored photos from forum users.

It's interesting the stories that people come up with for attention.
