I thought that deffinitively it was taken on the 1860's, why would it be retouched? Well, I'm thinking for example about the photos depicting old Queen Alexandra and Empress Victoria, some of those photos were indeed retouched for making them look younger. Sissi was still young when that session was taken... that's what I don't understand :-?

(again sorry for repeating the same)   :-\

My tribute for Sisi:

By the way, I had time to see the video until today. Like always, very well done job Andrea!!!  :)

Sorry for asking this, but you mention that the photo is unretouched... When was it taken? (for being need to retouch it in other verssions :-?)

That photo was taken around 1868/1869, the last photo session she ever posed for.
The information about it being unretouched comes from the auction site.

Here you can see for yourself: http://www.hermann-historica.de/auktion/hhm63.pl?f=NR_LOT&c=2390&t=temartic_A_D&db=kat63_a.txt
The starting price is at 2200 Euro. The portrait (the retouched version) was used as the last photo of the Empress and thus often used for the death cards, memorial photos, etc.
You can see the retouches and thus the differences here:

A book that deals with the topic of retouches is the German book by Gerda Mraz "Kaiserin Elisabeth - Wunschbilder oder die Kunst der Retusche"

Yes. Indeed. I think the retouched ones are nice too...for less than 20 Euros...

Thank you very much for the info, both Veronica and Zukunftsseele!!! The thing I less thought was that it was retouched for using it later (and made her looking aged!!)  :o

I know she liked colored stones like rubies and emeralds.

It's hard to tell about that...she certainly favored black in her later years, that much is apparent. The emeralds...the emerald jewelry that Elisabeth had was a gift from Franz Josef, I'm pretty sure, and who knows if he knew her favorite color! Surviving dresses of the Empress's are black, of course, lavender, white and pinkish...I can't recall that I've seen any other colors. Garnets as well as rubies were in her jewelry, I think, but her color preferences can't necessarily be judged by her jewelry unless she commissioned it herself...lots of it likely were gifts.
This portrait by Franz Schrotzberg (spelling??) could be a good hint. I read that she posed reluctantly for most other painters, but apparently not for Herr S....so she might have chosen her clothes here...

Black lace, pale pinkish white and sky blue...

This is just a wild guess, but perhaps as a young teenager in Possenhoffen she liked green...because she loved the forest, and riding and being in the wilderness. Of course when she became Empress, Elisabeth was bound by all that court regime that she so hated and as such she mightn't have been permitted to display much of her favorite hues...

As for flowers...Violets do sound fitting. Where did you read this, Rani?

Interesting facts!!! Well, the favorite color of Sissi is something hard to know... I can remember that several years ago (for being exact 4 years, sadly the site was deleted some years ago too) I  read a site that suggested that Sissi liked violet or purple but honestly I'm not sure about that.   :-\
When she was young, I knew that she mainly wore white or black dresses, of course, she had others of different colors but the majority were of the colors that I mentioned before. I don't think that she liked much black, she only used it for mourning.
About the portrait below I always thought that the painter was inspired in the well known family photo (she appears sitting and with baby Rudolph on her lap) because the pose and the hairdo are so similar and I thought that the painter simply invented her clothes but now I see that it isn't true!  ;)
Deffinitively I agree with Andrea at thinking that jewelry isn't necessary a clue about what color she preffered.
Sissi seemed to adore violets, not only for their smell or beauty but I can remeber to read (I also say that I don't known how true it is) that she adored to eat violet sorbet.  :)

Sisi see,ed to like lighter colors like and lavander in her youth, but retreated to black when she grew older. It was noted that she looked "becoming" in black. In fact Franz Josef fell in love with Sisi while she was wearing mourning in Bad Ischl.
