its franz Ferdinand in late 1880s. Go check his topic and you will realize its him. Otto had nothing to do in that image since he was NOT heir presumptive AKA  Thronfolger

I found this family portrait quite interesting... according to the caption that it has: it shows the imperial family of Austria joined and a painting of Sissi is behind them on the wall but at the same time you can see at the right at top the ghost of the dead Empress!! This is one of the strangest family portraits that I've ever seen!!

The caption says "Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand d'Este" ;-)

die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

Actually this painting is well-known. You can find it in almost every photobook about Elisabeth.

....I think it's Gisela, firstly because I've never seen Elisabeth wear a hat like that, and secondly, the features just look too much like Gisela. While she did bear some resemblance to her mother, I've always observed that Gisela had a bit more of a chubby face, with dimples, whereas Sissi had a less plump countenance. We all know how much she strived for a thin figure!  ::) Soo..I think it's Gisela. Just the whole countenace of the lady seems to exclaim Gisela to me, I dunno why.  ???
I don't think she's Gisela, the lady photographed is quite slim and her face isn't chubby (it's more noticeable in the close up that Elske made (thank you very much for it)), the man is definitively Franz Joseph although his face isn't easy to see.
A agree totally with Katenka, the lady portrayed is really Empress Sissi.

I swear that's Gisela.  It looks so much more like her than Elisabeth.  The nose looks different, as do the ears and that waistline.

It's hard to believe that Sissi would feel interested at having an affair (physical relationships) at knowing her character only a bit, she disliked intimacy with men (she showed it very well at allowing her husband having mistresses) plus not wanting to be pregnant anymore. Two, i doubt that she would like to take the risk of being involved on a scandal after looking the problems of her sisters Marie and Sophie. Three her lonely character was other thing.
I read one time about her that she liked her letting be loved but not letting be touched.
Of course, I'm not saying that she didn't feel certain love for some men, but was only platonic and idealized more that a real affair.

Well...Sisi loved to be adored but not pocessed. She went through that with her husband and it did not work.
