Hello! I have read that Hannover Crown Jewels were returned to Hannover family by William II when V. Louise of Prussia got married with Erns August of Hannover. Is it true?

I found these pictures of the crowns of the Kings and Queens of Hanover in Lord Twining's book "A History of the Crown Jewels of Europe" (1960). Allegedly they were made for the occassion of Crown Prince George (V)'s marriage to Marie of Saxe-Altenburg in 1843. Does anybody know any more about them, where they are nowadays, among other things?

I don't recall reading in Twining that they ever were seized by the Prussians, but I might be wrong.

Most likely still in the Hanoverian family if the pieces survive WW II.

I once e-mailed Marienburg Castle and asked about their whereabouts, but they replied that they didn't want to give out any information about it.

BTW I now see that one of these crowns (or is there perhaps really just one?)  also appears in this painting of Queen Friederike. Considering that she died in 1841, it was perhaps made before 1843 then?

Curious painting of Queen Frederica of Hannover. She was the sister of the saintly Queen Luise of Prussia and niece of Queen Charlotte of Great Britian. She was married three times and a woman of questionable morals (as far as Queen Charlotte goes). She was reputed to be a beauty in youth, but it seems from this painting that she lost it somewhere.

That's a meander tiara, which later inherited her niece Princess Marie Louise, spouse of Prince Max of Baden.

Do you have one of Marie Louise wearing the meander tiara ? I think Princess Frederica (sister of Mary) had a tall tiara too, whom she wore to the coronation of King Edward VII.

Thanks for posting ! I do collect postcards of the Cumberland girls. I see more of Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Sherwin in jewels than Marie Louise, who was usually photographed with her her husband & two young children in daytime dress.

Alexandra of M-S had quite a number of jewels...at least 4 tiaras apart from the towering diamond and amythest diadem (which belonged to a parure and was part of the house gems) she wore 2 of them at the wedding of Fredrick of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden but then they disappear off the radar.I always wonder if they were left hidded in Ludwiglust when they fled west in 1945..indeed that might have been the reason their son Christian Ludwig returned to Schwerin and was capturd by the Russians...however nobody ever seems to know anything about their fate. Of course their married daughter who lived in Flensberg before the end of the war might have already received a share.

Indeed...Alexandra had more jewels than her sister Marie Louise, which is why I am so thankful that people posted some of her in jewels. Indeed Alexandra recieved much from the Romanov jewels from her rich mother-in-law. One of the best was the Russian fringe which I personally liked. Her sisters-in-law got some (featured in the Danish Royal jewels book). Yes, it would be nice to know what happen to those M-S jewels. I also wondered what happen to Princess Frederike of Hannover's tall tiara...I don't think VL got it.

One worn at the theatre was a large diamond affair topped with coloured stones (rather like the Leutchenberg sapphire tiara in the Swedish royal collection...this could have been the aquamarine and diamond tiara which was commissioned by the Grand Duke in St Petersburg as a wedding gift for his bride.
The other was a rather ugly,weird shaped affair(maybe a aigrette sans plume) worn in a wedding group photograph.

Grand duchess Alexandra had, at least, another diadem: a fringe tiara. But I have not seen more photos of her wearing more diadems (fringe, aigrette and tall diadem with coloured stones)
