Indeed. I never saw Thyra wearing a tiara in fact.

She at least wore a pretty nice diamond one at the wedding of her son to Victoria Louise.

Thankyou GDElla...there is also a minature by Zhengraf circa 1900 in the British royal collection of Thyra wearing a band of very large  brilliants in her hair (as  well as many rows of diamonds and pearls and her famous cross).Somewhere I seem to remember a quote from a diplomat (Daniel Vare?) saying that when Thyra wore her great diamond necklace with its cross and her towering diadem she was every inch as regal as her sisters...

ANY married woman (let alone a royal)in that era could not have appeared in society without a tiara.

Especially one who apparently appeared fairly frequently at the Austrian Court. I just wish there were more stories and/or photos of the time they spent there. I've read varying accounts of their prominence.

That tiara looked more like a crown. Glad she had one to wear. I did not see that photo before. It was taken at Ernst August & Viktoria Luise wedding in Berlin ? Yes I have seen her with diamond ornaments on her hair including the circle of diamonds (could be a necklace) and sometimes with diamond stars in her hair. Yet it was seldom that she wore her diadem in public until that wedding.

Based on the descriptions of her wedding outfit for the 1913 wedding, I believe this was a different occasion.

Interesting. Poor Thyra did not have too many occasions to deck up in style.

For years I've looked for a good picture of the Hanoverian crown and finally there is one, from the upcoming exhibition at Marienburg Castle for the 300th anniversary of the British-Hanoverian personal union and the 200th anniversary of Hanover's elevation to a kingdom:
Der Weg zur Krone - Das Königreich Hannover und seine Herrscher

Apparantly the exhibition was opened by Hereditary Prince Ernst-August of Hanover: Выставка в замке Мариенбург
Präsentation der Krone auf Schloss Marienburg

Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

Thanks for this information! I just arrived on our 3 year tour in Belgium and I am *definitely* adding this to my 'to do' list.
