Update 05 27 2024
I believe my Great Grandmother's Russian Godfather is 1842-1908 Semyon Vasilyevich Kakhanov. Коханов Семен Васильевич.
Great Grandmother Katherine Boris Shelev from the Caucasus - Pyatigorsk area.
I have pursued the person matching the photo in order to see if I could find more information on my family - the family Boris Shelev.
I have no glory in finding this information unless it helps me go deeper in my family tree. But I have not made that connection yet.

"While they were talking, we arrived at the mansion of the Order Ataman. We passed the sentries, on the second floor we were met by a lieutenant general with George of the 4th degree on his chest (as Aristarchus told me, his chieftain received, like the St. George weapon, for the Turkish war).
Ataman Kakhanov Semyon Vasilyevich was in a Circassian coat with gazyry and
three-star epaulettes, with the Order of St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree with swords around his neck and St. Anna of the 1st degree a little lower - on the 2nd button.
Semyon Vasilyevich looked with respect at my orders with swords, saying that they were not a civilian shpak,?
Then Aristarchus and I went to his house, the colonel's wife prepared all sorts of things, a lot - from her garden and vegetable garden. As a true Cossack woman, she preferred her own products and knew how to cook them deliciously. At lunch he would tell the news of St. Petersburg, invite them to come to us, but after February-March, since Masha and the little one would not go from Switzerland before, it?s probably better to even talk about mid-March.

Written about the Chief Ataman that followed Kakhanov - Major General Sergei Evlampievich Tolstov (1899-1905): ?Unlike the former head of the region, General Kakhanov, who was known for his tough disposition, Sergei Evlampievich Tolstov pursued a more liberal policy. He paid special attention to the problems of education of both the Cossack and the mountain population. Village and village schools, gymnasiums and colleges were opened everywhere.?
