If the photos of Tatiana on replies 402 and 404 are from  shortly after her  1913 post-typhoid head- shaving (as I think her and Nicholas' looks and positioning  in 404 suggest  ), then I'm thinking that having her hair cut very short would be a better description of what happened than a complete head shaving. Her hair couldn't have grown to the length shown shown in these two photos , which I suspect were taken about two weeks after her illness at most, if Tatiana had had a completely smooth head shave. Nicholas really does look like he's supporting his recently ill daughter in reply 404.

Looks like they've scanned even more into the Beinecke albums. Beautiful!

Yes, according to Olga's diary it was "cut short" not shaved, on 5 March 1913. (I think that date is old style, but I'm not positive.)

Where was this taken? And where did you find it?

I second that! After all of these years how is it possible that we keep finding photos that hardcore Romanov enthusiasts haven't seen?

Judging from the length of her hair it's early-1913 I gather?

This photos were scanned by " one person "  from albums that are in Moscow State archive.
There are many unknown albums in ihis archive , but they are not allowed to scan  :(

Well I sure hope that changes sometime soon! And while they're at it maybe they can share with us all of the color photos of the IF they must have stashed away somewhere :-)

That photo in reply 41: most striking, to say the least. And to think Tatiana was only 15.

Thank you very much Tatiana Z for sharing those picture!
I found them very emotional. Tatiana's eyes are so sad. It must have been so hard for her to cut her hair short :(

Squee!

Short hair really suited Tatiana.

If they ever released the color photos (if they have them) I would probably die.
