I'm once again left wondering about the year. The hair looks more like the style Olga wore which Tariana couldn't wear until about 1915.

Or is there more hair to it that I'm not seeing?

Re the lace cover visible in the lower right corner of the above photo:  Could it be from Alexandra's couch in the mauve boudoir, and the one that accompanied the family into exile and was used as an altar cloth at the Governor's Mansion?  If so, it's a nice close up of the detailing.

No ?  necessary for the photo label. It's Tatiana.The true question is: what's that thingy above her head? I trust it's not some form of medieval torture device.

A drying rack, perhaps? Or something on which one could hang knitted things? I've seen things like it in my mom's fiber studio, but can't seem to place exactly what it is.

It looks like a folding stool turned upside down.  Even if it was meant as humor, it's kinda bizarre...

I think it's great. You just know one or more of the sisters was behind this. Getting the normally serious "Governess" to be the focus of such a silly photo, while reading no less, is quite an accomplishment! Playful and endearing.

Perhaps even a little covert statement the girls were making? Poking fun at some pretty ridiculous looking matching hats they had to wear?
