Tatiana suite, isn't that really nice? That they've dedicated that to her? I would love to stay in that suite!

RealAnastasia.

It says "Grand Duchess Tatiana Nicholaeivna Romanova" and "Ekaterinburg" and "Nicholas II". I don't see what other Tatiana it could be referring to.  ;D

Interesting find.

They should rather have dedicated it to Tatiana's bisexual uncle Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig. Unlike her he actually holidayed on Capri, didn't he, as a guest of the bisexual (by our modern standards possibly pedophile?) industrial magnate Friedrich Krupp? Though I guess that wouldn't be as romantic.... Neither would a room dedicated to Tatiana's cousin Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, Princess of Sweden, who claimed she had been abused by her mother-in-law Queen Victoria of Baden's own Rasputin figure, Dr. Axel Munthe, during a Capri sojourn...

As Axel Munthe himself noted in "The Story of San Michele" the shadows are as darkest where the sun shines the most brightly....

What I find remarkably interesting about this are the reasons the suite was named so. It gives credit to the Sigorini Family, and mentions Prince Bullak of Russia. The Prince bought the hotel in the 1900s had made the mansion into a centre for Russian culture and art, hence the "invisible thread". The Sigorini's purchased in in the 30s.

My question is, what prompted the Sigorini family to dedicate the room to the Grand Duchess? Simply to acknowledge the history of the previous owner's country?

As well, why Tatiana? Is there a connection between the Prince (or the Sigorini family) and the second child of the Tsar? Why not one of the other daughter, such as the eldest (Olga) or the most famous (Anastasia)?

Makes me wonder why just Tatiana too.   Perhaps they should have had five rooms dedicated to the children instead of one.

Maybe Tatiana was their favourite Grand Duchess? It's, IMO, still a nice act though. It does say that they chose her for her beauty which is apparently reflecting that of Capri.

Thanks Abbigail! No, I don't know whether there any pictures of Tatiana in the suite, but it would be nice if there was one wouldn't it? Just as an everlasting reminder as to who she was?

That is interesting. What a lovely suite...
What I don't understand, though, is what the hotel site says in the last paragraph about the Tatiana room. Something about "She devoted her life to every sunset of Capri" or something like that, which doesn't make any sense at all. Does anyone have any clue what they're talking about?

The whole things is very thoughtful and nice, but sort of random.

Well, it does say this on the page;

This act is a tribute to her unique beauty and elegance.

So perhaps that's just why? As well, when it comes to the girls, Tatiana always seems like the forgotten one. I don't mean by everyone, of course, but I've read a lot less on Tatiana in random places than I have the other four children. Perhaps I'm just reading in dumb places all the time. But maybe they felt that way too, and that's why they chose her?

I read in Portuguese Wikipedia that Tatiana was the most popular of the girls when they were alive... I don't think she was forgotten at all. I might be mistaken

Anyway, nice finding, BA ;D
