I am very much enjoying this book of GD Olga Alexandrovna's memoirs. Interesting to read she felt very close to her neice GD Olga Nikolaevna - said they were very similar in outlook, so much so that she could all but 'read' Olga's thoughts on any issue. Also includes some letters from GD Olga A to Tatiana and Maria.

I will definitely be looking for this book next time I have the chance/asking for it when my birthday comes up!!!! It sounds like a great historical account. Does it seem like it reuses a lot of information from already published memoirs of Olga's? (I haven't read any of those though, so I guess it wouldn't matter for me!)

No...there seem to be a lot of new stories in here that aren't included in the other books on Olga. I think it's a very good book to have in conjuction with Vorres book on Olga if you can get it.

Do you know if it's an English version of her memoirs published in Danish a few years ago, also called 25 chapters of my life? Those memoirs dealt with her life until 1920.

Yes, in the intro we can read that it was first published in Danish and now in English.

Not quite. According to the intro, the Danish version was a republication of articles published in a Danish magazine in the 20s. This book is a re-translation of the original manuscript notes that Olga made for those articles. They were orignally written in a combination of English and Danish and the Danish portion has been translated to create a book fully in English, so it may differ in some respects from the Danish version of the book.

As much and I like and respect Paul Gilbert, his prices can be overwhelming.

I just checked his site and he wants $35 USD for the book and $15 for s/h.

I just ordered it from eBay for $20.19 USD including s/h.  That is a much better price for me.

         Gilbert's Royal Books is selling it, but the publisher is Librario and I don't think PG has had any involvement. The translations are done by Karen Roth, who is a Danish speaker (and also knows Russian) and is - I think! - a regular writer for Royalty Digest etc. (certainly she attends the conferences and knows everyone associated with it!) Editing is by Karen, by OLga's great-grandson Paul Kulikowsky, and by Sue Woolmans, who is also an RD regular and who is a major "mover and shaker" in the world of royal research - bsaiclaly, she knows everyone and is adept at putting people in touch with each other and more than generous in helping out with research. Charlotte Zeepvat's last book ("From cradle to crown")was dedicated to her.
So people need have no qualms about the credentials of this book :-) ....it has lots of Olga's pictures in it in addition to previously-unpublished letters and memories. There are some definite differences between this account and the one in Vorres - differenecs of style as well as content (Olga is much less hard on her mother here, for one thing, though she does recount one occasion that the Dowager Empress was, in her view, very selfish, which concerns Olga's and Kulikowsky's decision to leave the Crimea in 1919 and move into the inkterior of Russia. Maria Feodorovna felt they should remain in the Crimea to look after her.)

My understanding is the translation Gilbert's Royal books had made was from the Danish articles rather than the original manuscripts that this one is done from. Also, in the end they were unable to publish their translation due to copyright issues...so we are looking at two different projects here on the same work.
