It is a BIG step forward that the Pushkin authorities have permitted the erection of the Memorial to the Jewish people.
Sadly, no matter how gruesome those photographs are, they do depict a shameful page in Russia's history. Such images must not be hidden from public view. 
I agree, since there are still people out there (in Russia and in the west) who still claim that the holocaust never happened and was nothing but Jewish propaganda. I even saw a book at the local Pushkin bookstore - prominently displayed - about this very subject (the author claimed that it never happened)... But I have a feeling that even with archival photos some people will just say that they are fake, just like they say that the videos are fake... There will always be a certain faction of people who would much rather believe conspiracy theories than facts (as we all well know from this forum
