You can also see more details of their faces, which is really interesting.

I couldn't agree more. I love to see big files. Makes the photos easier to draw too. I might have to do this one...thanks again for posting. About the dress, I wonder if they wore lace over garments...even at this stage. I know they did as children...that is,  wear a colored shift and a lace dress over it...so the color would show

Lord yes, very similar. Sometimes in pictures of them when young, you have to identify them based on Olga's  wider forehead or Marie's wider jaw! The photo of Tatiana with Nicky's  shadow was published in the Robert Massie bio of N & A 40 years ago ..the caption makes a note of it.  I have seen the photo since, but the Tsar's shadow is often cropped out and you just see Tatiana. It's funny, because you can see his index finger is pointed up ...meaning " now, stay still" T looks fairly annoyed...perhaps that's why she'll sometimes frowns while taking photos...you had to keep very still! lol!

Where (his index finger i mean)? Wow, things you never notice in photos until someone points them out  :)

Yes it's over the big brownie box  camera he was using! Since they took sooooo many  photos, them having to stand still for the pictures goes a long way to explaining why they some times look annoyed! lol!

I believe it's Anastasia who is helping Olga up in that great photo...(or is Olga trying to pull her down? lol! )
too short for Tatiana , plus I have seen better copies where it's plainly Anastasia.

Hey that's true, I thought it too! Tatiana was taller.
So it's Anastasia with Olga!

Yes and Anastasia doesn't look too enthusiastic about helping Olga up either...a little apprehensive! But Olga's got a good grip on her hand ! lol!

Photo-postcard of Hussar Olga (I believe in 1911):
http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy285/otmaprivatealbums/OLGA1911.jpg

1913 August, to be precise. According to Bulla's atelier.  ;-)

Olga's diary mentions by name the horses that she and Tatiana rode during their regimental exercises on 5 August 1913:

At 10:30 the two of us in uniforms went to the training grounds. We rode on horses: I rode on Regent, T[atiana] on Robino.
