I don't think she's wearing mourning. The fabric and style don't look right for that. I think it's more likely just a dark dress.

Yes. The fabric would also be dull and lusterless, like the dresses OTM wore for KR's funeral in 1915. Pearl jewelry would probably not be considered appropriate, either.

I thought so too!

It looks like Olga is dressed quite warmly; perhaps this is from March-April and Maria was still too ill to go outside.

Another thing, Maria was bit taller. O and M are sometimes so hard to differ in the photos. It is pity that there are just few Maria's photos form the captivity, don't you agree, KarinK?

It is pity that there are just few Maria's photos form the captivity, don't you agree, KarinK?

Yes, the rares I would love to see are 1917 spring photos of the family indoors. Most were taken in the garden, and though there are a couple of Maria with Nicholas and Tatiana/Anastasia, I feel that having more indoor photos could give me a better idea of what Maria and Anastasia looked like as the young women they had grown up to be, without the hats or heavy clothing they wear in most 1915-1917 photos.

Ally, what a wonderful picture of Olga bicycling down the terrace ramp!  I haven't seen this one before. 

Now I wonder, what is that mat doing at the foot of the ramp?!
