Franz Xaver Winterhalter (20 April 1805 – 8 July 1873) was a German painter and lithographer, known for his portraits of royalty in the mid-nineteenth century. His name has become associated with fashionable court portraiture. Among his best known works are Empress Eugénie Surrounded by her Ladies in Waiting (1855) and the portraits he made of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (1865).

What a charmed life Franz led.... travelling round the  Royal Palaces of  Europe,  painting  portraits
of the  Royal beauties of the  day.
His portraits of  Eliz of  Austria are some of my favourites and he painted the young Victoria  too !

( I wonder if he ever got round to writing  his  auto biog ? )

Wow, he is a good portrait painter. They are so beautiful and realistic. And so many! I had only seen the ones of Sisi and a few others; where in the world did you find all those pictures of the paintings, Madame-Sisi?

of Sissy... he was a master portrait painter
