It's about 26˚ (78.8˚ F) right now, which is hot but it could be worse. I mean, our summers usually get up to 45˚ (113˚ F) by the end of July, and winters get down to -50˚ (-58˚ F) in January, so really anything between -10˚ (14˚ F) and 25˚ (77˚ F) is rather nice. So sitting at 26˚ today, it's still close enough to 'nice' for me to bear it, and since it's overcast there's no sun to beat down on us, so that is also nice.

Canada - Northern Ontario to be exact. Where I am the 113˚ F temperatures in summer only really last for about a week, at the end of July, but it's unbearable. However summer doesn't last very long in general, the first snowfall in my town happens in late September and the snow doesn't officially disappear until early May. So while we have some extremes with both summer and winter temperatures, winter lasts far longer than summer in terms of weather conditions. According to the 'climate' part on my city's Wikipedia page, though, records from Environment Canada from between 1981 and 2010 show the record high my city has ever experienced is 49.2˚ C (120.5˚ F) and the record low it's ever experienced is -53.1˚ C (-65.5˚ F).

Thanks for the info, Padawan Brittany. Those are some wild temperature extremes: 186 degrees Fahrenheit, to be exact.

Where I am, in upstate New York, near the Pennsylvania border, the record high is around 101 or so, and record low I'd say is about minus 15, the latter probably set this past winter. Each bad enough, IMO.

Just returned from completing the Nijmegen Marches in Holland, where yesterday the 'official' temperature was 93F!! I say official, because the actual temperature when you are plodding along roads with no breeze and no shade is probably a good bit higher.

Question:  How come, when the rest of the world went Metric decades ago, the U.S. still clings to the old outdated system of Fahrenheit?

There is a heatwave here in south-west Germany. The temperature reached +37 degrees yesterday and even during the night it did not drop below +20 degres, which means we had a so-called "tropical night". Although overcast at present it is around +27 degrees (at 10h00 in the morning) but the heatwave is expected to end this evening or tomorrow with a violent thunder storm and heavy rain

Those top numbers are measuring "humindex". Or as we call it down here in the States, "heat index". The highest actual 'real' temperature record ever recorded in Canada is 45.0-C (113-F) in Saskatchewan in 1937. The hottest day in Ontario's history took place at Atikokan in 1936 when the temperature rose to 42.2-C (108-F). The coldest ever recorded meanwhile was at Snag Yukon in 1947 when it reached -63-C (-81.4-F) and the chilliest in Ontario took place at Iroquois Falls in 1935 when it got down o -58.3-C (-72.9-F).
