The Library of Congress has asked permission to include the Alexander Palace Time Machine to its historic collection of internet materials.  We are honored to be so included.

Bob got the following email this morning:

From: webcapture@loc.gov

Subject: Library of Congress Permission Request

To Whom It May Concern:

The United States Library of Congress has selected your Web site for inclusion in its historic collections of Internet materials. The Library's traditional functions, acquiring, cataloging, preserving and serving collection materials of historical importance to the Congress and to the American people to foster education and scholarship, extend to digital materials, including Web sites. We request your permission to collect your web site and add it to the Library's research collections. The following URL has been selected for archiving:

www.alexanderpalace.org

We request your permission to collect your web site and add it to the Library's research collections. In order to properly archive this URL, and potentially other URLs of interest on your site, we would appreciate your permission to archive both this URL and other portions of your site. With your permission, the Library of Congress or its agent will engage in the collection of content from your Web site at regular intervals over time and make this collection available to researchers both onsite at Library facilities and though the Library's public Web site http://www.loc.gov/webarchiving/. By special arrangement, the Library may also make this collection available to scholarly research institutions for web archive research. The Library hopes that you share its vision of preserving Internet materials and permitting researchers from across the world to access them. The following link also includes a separate consent for permitting the Library to provide offsite access to your!
materials through the Library's Web site.

Our Web Archives are important because they contribute to the historical record, capturing information that could otherwise be lost. With the growing role of the Web as an influential medium, records of historic events could be considered incomplete without materials that were "born digital" and never printed on paper. For more information about these Web Archive collections, please visit our Web site (http://www.loc.gov/webarchiving/).

If you have questions, comments or recommendations concerning the web archiving of your site please e-mail the Library's Web Archiving team at webcapture@loc.gov at your earliest convenience. Thank You.

Is this for the AP site itself  or does it include the Forum ? I hop not the latter, as there is a lot of  excess baggage here.

It is everything. All the websites within AlexanderPalace.org, which, includes the forum.  I agree there is a lot of fluff, however there is also a LOT of serious history included here.  I was laughing with one of our long time users on the phone earlier, who I talk with regularly in the "real world", at what scholars might think of some of the discussions in here, in say two hundred years from now. Ranging from the ridiculous, nasty backstabbing name calling, to the downright silly "isn't Olga's hair pretty" etc etc. BUT, for every one of those, there are the hugely valuable discussions about History that are in here. Griff's Alexandra Fights back being one of  them, among many.

I have to say this too someone in years to come will know of me and how I loved history and the last years of Imperial Russia. I hope they will see I always tried to be objective and stand back and take time to read, listen and absorb others op ionins and feelings. I hope just one of my postings will mean something special to the man, women or child Reading it.

I am really moved by this!! Well done verybody.

Hi,

Congratulations - this is an important step in obtaining and educating the general public on the historic aspect(s) of events related to all royalty.....

But, I do echo that there is a lot of fluff & outright drivel on here too.  That should come off;  I know several people did do a "housecleaning" some months ago, but there is still inate 'non-information' on here...

However, most of the message board is exhilorating and beneficial and informational......

Cheers,
Larry

I'm really thrilled to learn this... it is a major contribution to researchers, students, writers and historians worldwide. When I think of the width and breadth of this collection and what it will mean to scholars in the generations to come it leaves me feeling breathless!

Well done Bob, Rob, Moderators and all members and contributors...  Alexander Palace Time Machine will become a major source for information on the last of the Romanovs~

And I want to add that "The Empress Fights Back" will now have her place in history thanks to our very own "griffh"!

Gosh I am am bursting with pride for Rob and Bob! It is such a fantastic 'nod' from those on high who evidently value what many of us regard as 'our' forum! Let's have a mutual  pat on the back!!!! What makes it even more wonderful is that we who are all so passionate about history and who devote ourselves so eagerly and willingly to sharing and discussing our mutual passion here, are to become part of a record of 'our' times, a valued and preserved part of living History! Wow I am humbled to even contemplate being part of such a record!

Congratulations to APTM and especially to our visionary 'forum father', Bob! A global round of cheering and applause is no doubt reverberating as others pop into this thread and see that we are to become part of the future resources preserved and available to future historians! It makes one feel even more 'responsible' and 'aware' of the legacy of some of what  we contribute! Will the forum be actively archived so to speak, by the Library? By which I mean, will the Library continuously update their forum records so that future posts will be included?

I too agree with Primrose and FA, that Griff's work alone deserves it's very own place in 'History'!!!!! Plus there must be a staggering amount of other data that will now be safeguarded for future generations! As well as lots of what future commentators will probably find amusing and tiresome 'chit-chat, musings and back biting' in equal measure! How wonderful!

What a fete to have built this website out of a few dreams and have it become such a respected collection of historical information.  By visiting here I for one have been very motivated to research and learn more.

Congratulations to all of the founders.
