The Empress's Eggs
« on: February 16, 2005, 01:56:54 PM »
With the recent purchase for Russia of the Forbes Collection of Faberge, I wonder if there might not be some interest in seeing the Imperial Eggs returned to their original homes.  I refer to the Anitchov or Gatchina for those belonging to the Dowanger Empress and the Alexander Palce for those belonging to the Empress.  Such a display in the Parade Chambers of the Alexander Palace would be marvelous to see.

That would be really wonderful Strom(perhaps too much so for becoming real...). As far as the Alexander Palace is concerned, it would not only be the pleasure of admiring these pieces in the place they belong to, but i think that the eggs would also add a lot of visitors(and money) to the palace...

Last spring, when the Forbes Collection was bought and returned to Russia, I believe I remember Bob Atchison writing on this website that it would be wonderful to have the Faberge eggs returned to a restored Alexander Palace! Not only would it be the right place for those lovely personal possessions to be, but it would certainly add to the AP as a travel destination. Let's hope someone in Russia shares Bob's wisdom!  Melissa K.

I wrote a similar dissertation here as well...I can only hope someone in Russia has the business sense to make it happen.... The ones in the Kremlin coud be brought tehre to completely display them in their origianl setting....restored of course.
Imagine the number of tourists that would pay to see the eggs in a restored Maple Room or Mauve boudoir or Bedroom.

From the business sense to make Alexandr Palace is not the better place. Because very small amount of tourists physically could go their. The average period of stay for the ordinary tourist group in Petersburg is about 3 days.
When tourists come to Poushkin , they are waiting in the queue for the Ekaterina Palace more for the 1 hour and then they are running through the rooms, after this, they are running back to Petersburg by bus for the next target call meal ,then to the next target in the town.
Alexandr Palace is interesting for the Europeans, but ordinary Japanese , Chinese etc they has no much interest in it because the rooms are tiny , with the lack of gold and so on.
For security reason it it very hard to protect the Eggs in the palace too.
