Maria was also Alexandra's most difficult pregnancy. Maybe after 9 difficult months with his wife, Maria being female seemed even worse.

Well, maybe Nicky needed the walk.  The guy had just become a father for the fourth time.  No doubt he had a lot on his mind.

Good point, Tim...but at least he didn't have to worry whether he could afford that many children!  ;)

I am agreed. Alexandra started having pains at 3.a.m., and Nicholas woke up at 4.a.m. and dressed up. At 6.a.m. Anastasia came to the world.

Maybe Nicky did it both times?

Maybe.

wow! that was incredibly fast! were all of the labours fast does anyone know? how long were they?

No, they were not. Olga, Tatiana and Maria were "torturing" their mother for a long time.

'Good point, Tim...but at least he didn't have to worry whether he could afford that many children!'

Or whether there were enough bedrooms for all of them.

Now my mother announced my impending arrival to my father by telling him he would have to get rid of his car - there wasn't room for a carry cot in the back!

was anastasia the only easy birth? (when i say "easy" obvsiously i say that loosley, going on the time) and the only relatively fast one? what about alexei? i imagine that would have been hard too, going on alix's age and health, mind you she was older and worse-off health wise when she had anastasia than the first 3 girls.
anyone know about her labour with alexei compared to anastasia?

Alexei too was born very easily. Alix felt the labour pains, went to her room and practically right after that Alexei was born.

odd how the first 3 labours were harder than the second 2, when taking into consideration alix's age and health

I´m not specialist having no child myself, but from what my Mama told me, usually the first labour is the most difficult.

According to the sources, little Heir was born 'relatively quickly'.

Alix was having lunch but did not eat a lot, didn't feel well and went to her room. Just about half an hour or one hour later Alexei was born. Thats more than quick!

Does anybody know about the time of the others? Anastasia at 6 a.m., Olga - if I am right - was born in the evening, wasn't she. And the others?

if anastasia and alexei were relatively quick labours, how long were the other three? anyone know how many hours? wasn't anastasia 3 h?

About Olga I have the information: 21 hours! The pain starting at 1 p.m., she came to the world at about 9 p.m.
