The nose certainly looks more like Maria's in the 'cleaner' version. I can't recall the Encyclopaedia's title - it's at Auckland University, but it translates to something like Encyclopaedia of the Russian Orthodox Church. It's pretty new, and so far the Uni only has the first few volumes. The reason the copy is so bad is that it is a digital photo of the photocopy I took of the page (it also explains the slant as I had to stand it up to stop my shaow getting in it). It wasn't dated, but I have seen photos from the Crimea where Anastasia is wearing a similar style of hat and clothing, which makes me think it must be 1913 or 1914ish, at any rate just before the war. I could be wrong of course, as no doubt they didn't think in 1915 looking at last year's clothing "Oh, that is like sooo 1914!", and chuck it out! As long as clothes fitted, esp. during the war, I expect they'd have kept on wearing, at the very least, favourite items of clothing.
