It is not an impossible question, therefore you asked it, and somebody will answer. I noticed Alexei's photos (from Tsarskoe Selo's gardens in 1915), Alexei aboard the Standart in 1912/3, with his mother in 1913, one photo of Tsarevich from 1910, and indeed several formal ones of Alexandra, from 1890's up to 1917.

EDIT: There are several larger photos of Nicholas' study, and photos are more visible in those.  ;-)

How interesting, yes, I think that Ella's picture is there on the back right, but there is an object in front of the picture that blocks the left side.  He certainly had a penchant for elegant ladies.  And you guys are right that Alexandra is in the back on the right wearing a kokoshnik with veil.  I see 3 of Alexei, I think, in the middle: one in sailor's outfit (oval frame center front), one in the long cossack uniform (back row, center), and maybe also just to the left of this one a picture of him at age 3 in the white cossack outfit?  And to the very far left I wonder if it is Ella in her habit...?  But it would seem unlikely that he would have 2 of Ella.

This:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Alexandra_Feodorovna_with_her_son.jpg

is the second picture on the furthest right side of the desk. Or if that's not the exact picture, then it's one from the same series of Alexandra and Alexei.
