The Moscow Patriarchate expressed its condolences on Monday over the death of Grand Duchess of Russia Leonida Georgievna Romanov.

"Grand Duchess Leonida Georgievna, who had lived a very dramatic, complicated and long life, never forgot Russia," archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, who is in charge of the Russian Orthodox Church's relations with society, said.

The de-jure empress, the eldest representative of the Romanov family, died late on Sunday at the age of 95 in Madrid.

Rest in peace. Sadly that another member from the Russian emigre nobility/royalty has gone without any chance to see Russia as a modern and free state. Poor people without country;(. As Michalkov said: "Russians without Russia".

ლეონიდა ბაგრატიონ მუხრანელი

One is reminded of her Georgian heritage when her French Wikipedia article, which cites some solid sources, states that Stalin's mother worked as a laundress for her grandmother.
Did Grand Duchess Leonida speak Georgian?
Has anybody ready her autobiography "Chaque matin est une grâce"?

'' She was the last person from the Romanov family that was born before the revolution. '' for some reason i find those words incredibly sad.

Good news;). Hope only they fulfill her will and done all the things on the high level. Peter and Paul cathedral is the most appropriate place in this case.

Did Grand Duchess Leonida speak Georgian?

Feodor, as far as I know (by Evgeny Kiselev who met her several times in nineties when she visited Russia) she even could barely spoke Russian. Of course in this case to speak Georgian is simply impossible.

The fact that she was on a half Georgian doesn't mean that she knew Georgian;).
