I love this photo! I've seen several from this day on the Beineke albums, not in colour of course, and they are so moving to me. You can see the real Alix in these photos, not the Empress. I love the way her hair is simply tied back; no fancy coiffure or jewells, just a woman and mother looking tired and worried.  I also love the way Maria's hair is loose and touseled as if she just woke up. The colouring is lovely.
