Re Post # 174 : I have never heard/read that it was surgically corrected.  One thing that bolsters this thought is that it was one of the examination "tests" (no pun intended) in a clinical setting or otherwise, taken into consideration when much later claimants were advanced saying that they were the Heir.  Regards,  AP.

Thank you Aleksandr Pavlovich for clearing up those muddy waters. In a recent thread, "Kidney and stomach problems" Page two I think, I don't want to say His/Her name, that would be rude to call them out on that, so go to that specific thread. Here's what it said,

"Did Aleksey have an operation to correct his cryptorchidism? I read that he did, it was successful, and there was very little bleeding. It was from a book, but as usual, I can't remember which one. I'm thinking it was "The Lost World of Nicholas and Alexandra" but I don't own the book, and can't check. I could also very easily have the wrong book."

A little confusing.

Thank you for your Reply #76:  The waters ARE indeed muddy, because the original poster was unable to quote his/her source/s consulted.   As for "The Lost World of Nicholas and Alexandra," I have read it sometime ago, but it is not a book that I own personally (since I am not an admirer of the last Imperial Family), thus I would have to reference my local library, AS THE  POSTER  (to whom you refer) SEEMINGLY COULD HAVE ALSO DONE. There are some VERY knowledgeable people here, but to date, no one has affirmed that surgical correction was involved.  Regards,  AP.

Thank you so much! Glad that that was corrected.

I have that book, though I don't recall that particular detail. I'll have a second look when time permits. (If I don't report back within a week or so, give me a nudge.)

I posted the question.

I was not saying Aleksey did have the operation. Only that I remember reading that he did. I wasn't sure about the details, so I was asking if anyone had facts about it.

And my nearest quality library is 30 miles away. Forgive me if I can't travel that far to look up a detail in a book that might or might not be there.

>>cryptorchidism |kripˈtôrkiˌdizəm| ...a condition in which one or both of the testes fail to descend from the abdomen into the scrotum...<<

Usually this condition in a young male corrects itself because gravity will cause the testes to move downward as time passes.  Therefore, surgery was and still is not necessary for this condition.  And,  yes,  a man can father a child with one descended testes.  Of course, there are the usual exceptions and surgery may prove to be necessary.

This subject was discussed a long time ago,  and, I don't recall if the condition was corrected by surgery, however, I do recall that someone had quoted a source which provided us with the  reason to believe Alexei did have cryptorchidism.

Re Reply #81:  Thanks for the reply.  I know what you mean about a "quality library" !  A potential solution: If you have a local branch library nearer you, I feel certain that they could provide an "inter-library loan" arrangement from other libraries.  There is now a small charge, usually about $2.00 USD, if coming from another (entirely different) library. I have personally had such material sent from the US Library of Congress, larger university state/private colleges, small private colleges, etc.  One volume that I requested had only a dozen copies said to be available for lending in the entire USA (purchase price, if a copy was found separately on the rare book market, was over $900.00 USD), yet the lending institution had no qualms in sending it out for a 60 day loan! Needless to say, I asked for a receipt when I returned it to my local library.  Regards,  AP.

eton
Alexei had a condition where one of his testicles did not descend properly

Perhaps FA could recall the source since I'm unable to recall.

Re: Reply # 84:  Though I cannot, at this moment quote the EXACT reply, I have the impression that in earlier discussion/s, the FA remarked that someone he knew had seen medical records relating to the Heir's condition.  If I am incorrect, I gladly stand to be corrected.  Parenthetically, I personally would be inclined to believe that the Heir DID have this condition, and we will recall that the presence of this (UNCORRECTED) condition was one of the "tests" (no pun intended) considered when authorities were faced with "Alexei" claimants. Oddly enough, a couple of the claimants DID have the condition! Thus, the knowledge of this "condition" of the Heir was already "out there."   Regards,  AP.

Re my Reply # 85 on this very same thread, I have now located the references to which I alluded in my post # 85.  Refer to the statement that the Heir did indeed have this condition and the reply concerning confirmation by medical records, Replies #s 1 through 3, again on this same thread.   Regards,  AP.
